Khal returns to the Wolf's head inn to reunite with his friend Alejandro. The bartender, after an appropriate tip, advises them that Saolind has been calling on Khal and is staying across the street at the mansion. The housekeeper fetches her and she and Khal embrace. The three set out to outfit themselves for the party and purchase an appropriate gift for her parents. Saolind takes them to Yasmas' Clothiers in the central market. Ale splurged extravagantly for the most fashionable garb, while Khal settled for a more economical get up. Both purchased barongs -- sheer white shirts that cover an undershirt -- at Yasmas' suggestion. Having blanched at the idea of purchasing a goat for Saolind's parents, Ale suggested a songbird -- much to the young lady's delight! The three purchased a colorful bird and cage in the market and the three decide to return to their rooms, Khal in need of a bath. Before leaving, he notices Ale and Saolind passing knowing glances, and his swashbuckling friend departs, having "important business to take care of"!! After bathing, Khal finds Ale in the tavern, lipstick marking that his 'business' was complete.
The two attend the ceremony at the Nevea temple the next morning and see Hito, two men and two women sitting with him. Shortly after, at the mansion, Ale and Khal approach the two daughters, Nelathia and Vorina. Turning on the charm as only he can, Ale is responded to by a recognition of his escape from the lions, referencing his escape from the captivity under the town's guards. Understandably put off by this, he successfully parried some probing questions from her, while not receiving much in the way of information from her in return other than the fact that Alderman Galis had sided with her father in the vote to rebuild the North Gate. Feeling nervous about the direction of the questions, the two begin to seek an exit strategy. Perhaps Nelathia was not the easy mark that our friends had hoped...
