Ilma informed Khal that Sir Segar was back in town (he had been sheriff of Fort Teeth while Baron Imoldo was off at war with the Mercati). Segar's cook, who had helped Khal and Alejandro raid Segar's townhouse, was interrogated and told the knight everything. Sir Segar and his men were scouring the city looking for our two brave adventurers. Ilma suggested that Khal go on the lam for a couple of days, at least until Segar would be preoccupied with preoccupied with the Baron's parade.
This parade, in celebration of the Baron's victory against the Mercati, would coincide with the Festival of Blooming which would begin on the First Day of Darkening (the 11th) and end on the Vernal Equinox (the 21st). People from all over the kingdom would come to the festival, which entailed 10 days of contests, feasts, and drinking.
Ilma expressed his concerns that the Baron might lead a coup against the king during the parade, as his whole army would be within the walls of the city.
Khal inquired about when his next test would be for the Restless Hand. Ilma told him that the raid on Segar's Townhoue was a sufficient test, but that the Rites of Elevation still needed to be performed. Unfortunately, this would have to wait until later. For now, Ilma suggested that Khal stay with Saolind the sailor's family until the heat was off. The guild's safehouse and Khal's apartment would be too obvious a place to look, especially knowing that Zoanad, the Assistant Guilldmaster of the Restless Hand, was an informant of the Baron's.
So Ilma disguised Khal as an old man and sent him off the North Gate District, where Saolind's family lived. Saolind's parents were servants of Alderman Hito, so it was the decrepit mansion of the city elder that Khal went to.
Saolind's mother answered the door and took him around back to her small servant's house. She agreed that Khal could stay. Saolind was there, still in town from the earlier anniversary party of her parents. The family had dinner with Khal and they talked about Saolind's brother, Etiwin, who himself was on the lam due to losing the precious jewel called the Amulet of Knoss. This item had been stolen by Etiwin, also in the Restless Hand, and several members of the Queen's Guard from a noble lady near Fort Nepos to the South (the Queen's Guard is a secret force that protects the King's mother, known as the Queen Mother). Saolind explained that on their trip back, Etiwin woke up one morning to find the amulet missing. The Queen's Guard accused him of pullling a fast one, and have been after him ever since. After finally hearing the tale, Khal suggested that perhaps the guards took the amulet and were blaming Etiwin to redirect the attention.
