A warlord in the Gesh Desert to the south found a great treasure, and is using the wealth to lead a war of unification of the Geshi tribes. This sudden demand for war materials caused King Galameth of Alitrem (the princesses' father) to impose price controls on weapons and armor, which in turn led to a black market.
The trio then visit Tapria Blackmoth, mother of Tessie and May, to find out more.
Since they are in Donna's home town, Tapria suggests they visit the master spy of her father, Slyrin.
They learn many things from this master spy (who never reveals his face), among them that:
- The treasure the Gesh warlord found was the treasure of the blue dragon, Karzou, who is finally, after centuries of isolation, in search of a mate. The warlord had been tipped off by signs in the night sky.
- The real father of Donna is none other than the red dragon Zorgon. This is why her hair is actually red and why she has innate magical powers. Donna's mother had been seduced by Zorgon while in human form on the night of her wedding to the King of Umerus. A quick annulment was arranged by the King's mother.
- Grish is a former Mercati, from the Badlands, and is rumored to have betrayed his fellow smugglers to the evil Baron Imoldo during the Battle of Tamal.
- The spymaster suggested that they investigate the dagger that was found in the Fleetfoot Basements by the other group of Descendant Finders.
The three were amazed at how much they learned and asked the master spy how he knew so much. "It's my job to know," he replied.
Upon returning to Tapria's house, they discover a note made by the other group on how treasure was to be divided.
They note that Kirg got elven chainmail and Baldrick got a magic dagger.
