King Nault of Carillon, originally Albert Nault, Earl of Carrico, ascended to the throne at the young age of 19 after the passing of King Cedric. Thain Stormfell (in fulfilling his duty sworn to King Cedric to select a successor) bypassed the expected choice, the aging Yranish of Arsilet, in favor of the young Nault's vitality.  Nault's choice to retain his family name as his regnal name was a clear homage to his father and set the tone for a reign that would recognize both tradition and innovation.

Early in his reign, King Nault faced treachery from the Hill Cities, whose leaders did not present themselves at his coronation and later declared independence. However, these internal conflicts were overshadowed by the resurgence of the Dark Army, which threatened the kingdom from the Bywater River, prompting King Nault to fortify Fort Haine and make the difficult decision to focus on defending the kingdom's heartlands rather than intervening on behalf of the rebellious hill cities.

King Nault's rule saw the implementation of the "People's Reforms," which significantly improved the lives of his subjects. These reforms abolished human slavery, regulated serfdom, and allowed for more freedom in the alienation of fief property. Additionally, he established Royal Magistrate Courts to ensure the consistent administration of justice and prohibited the minting of coinage outside the royal mint to maintain economic stability.

During a visit to the South Province, King Nault met the vivacious Lady Meredyth Vederon, whom he married after a year. Their marriage was a partnership of both love and leadership, with Queen Meredyth being a constant presence by his side. Tragically, the queen passed away giving birth to Princess Palmina, leaving King Nault without a queen and, currently, without a direct male heir to the throne.

Following his queen's death, King Nault withdrew from the public eye, though he continued to enact reforms. These included formalizing the right to trial by jury for freemen and allowing private worship of gods other than Tyr, despite objections from the Church of Tyr. He even permitted the followers of the Green Man to establish open temples, reflecting his more progressive stance on religious worship, which has been a point of contention with the Church.  The people's love for King Nault has only grown through his long and properous rule!
