A semi-secret organization, opposing tyranny and any consolation of governmental power that grows too strong
Those-Who-Harp are a semi-secret organization founded in Myth Drannor supposedly all the way back in 324DR, and have disbanded and reformed many times since their inception. As they stand now, they hold no centralized power structure, but operate in cells of spies and agents in a loose decentralized scattering of individuals with similar goals and ideals. Mainly, opposing tyranny and any consolation of governmental power that grows too strong and threatens to turn to conquest, pushing for a balance between civilization and the natural world, preserving history and the arts such as music and poetry, and opposing evil organizations such as The Zhentarim and Xanathar Guild. They have followers among many gods, but some of the main ones are Corellon, Mielikki, Mystra, Oghma, Selûne, Silvanus, and Tymora.
The current Harpers have been criticized as meddlers, stirrers of discontent, and general trouble makers for powers of The Sword Coast. Many Lord’s Alliance members believe they’re just a bunch of disorganized wannabe freedom fighters bordering on anarchy and mistaking passion for wisdom. Many Harpers say that may not be a bad thing, when compared to authoritarian zealots who care more about their seats on councils than the well being of their citizens, especially the most vulnerable of them who are so often ignored. Many agents would currently hold Dagult Neverember up as one of the most mundane but insidious examples of who and what their order fights against day to day as he continuously abuses his power.
They mainly can be found amongst the Sword Coast and Moonshae Isles. However, sometimes the faction can be prone to infighting amongst different individuals who have risen to prominence among the ranks, as many have different ideas of how they should go about their goals and at what point abuse of power goes too far.
In Waterdeep, they are especially scattered, but many Harpers keep in touch with a network of individuals and inform each other of important events that they may all need to look out for and work towards involving themselves in, with a scattering of meeting points they will occasionally converge in for bigger issues that need a more organized discussion and planning for.
