Went to trade school to be a mechanic, but had to take out loans to pay for it. So while going to school and shit during the day, my character was an absolute fucking hustler. Spent evenings sharking at the card table and the pool tables. Knows how to count cards and rig all the games and stuff. Won good money. Well, good money for a poor person. But also, they've got this very expensive car hobby. Modifications for these already expensive racing cars is no joke. So spend nights hustling and sharking at the tables. One of the regulars of those tables kept their eyes on me. Never played with me though. One day they did. They said if I won, they'd change my whole life. And if I lost, they'd still give me a consolation prize. I haven't decided if my character won or lost. But I think my sire would've turned me regardless. Just wanted to have a fun time doing it. , that's how it happened. The embrace, in the eyes of my sire, was my "small loan of a million dollars".
So yeah, I think my sire is kind of gone. They gave me a super basic lesson, and then said they'd return after an undetermined amount of time away to see how I'd utilized their "business startup".
And honestly I think my character is one of those people who miserable about . I think they're actually enjoying it. Like it's been objectively an improvement to their previous life.
My character really enjoys feeding on people who are super adrenalized. And there's also something super poetic about a kindred spending their flirting with combustion engines all the time. Well. Go big or go home.
My primary source of income is my autobody shop. Normal, working on cars. People pay me to put in custom lights and engines and other modifications because I have access to them as the proprietor of an automotive business and am able to acquire these parts- there is nothing illegal about that.
As far as the street racing goes - that is an illegal activity for the actual drivers, not the people standing around watching. And it's illegal because it's not safe. Like that's really it. Violating traffic laws. High speeds like that can get someone killed (and statistically it's usually someone on the street, not the driver). My character is actually very dedicated to making these functions as safe as possible. Making sure cops and pedestrians are cleared out beforehand, making sure no one lies about what mods they have that could make things unsafe, etc. And making sure as the organizer and bookie, that no one is trying to pull one over on anyone or intentionally rig the bets. Because game recognize game, lol.
This is all in an effort to establish themselves as a respected and trustworthy figure in the greater "car" scene.
I'm perfectly content being surrounded by the unsavory folks. As an ultimately unsavory person myself, we will gel just fine. I cater to part time student drivers as well as the organized crime people. No judgment. Catch more flies with honey.
Okay, well even more on a technicality my participation in the organizing of these events perhaps creating a public danger, but I mean whatever forever. Potato tomato.
As long as any Kindred spectating or driving in my events understand that this is my house, my rules, and I don't like to be upstaged. Even if they win a race, they're a winner for a night, but I'm still the king of the night.
