Planebreaker is a powerful blade forged in the magical energy of the leylines of Toril. Originally called Spelldrinker and known for its propensity for absorbing spells and magical effects, the blade was used by Kiersey Mirrorwind and the Chosen of Del to absorb the primal magic of Toril's leylines being absorbed by the Planar Anchor. The prismatic light of the blade pulses like a heartbeat, filling those around it with light and energy.

Planebreaker

+5 Weapon (longsword), Legendary (requires attunement)

Formerly known as Spelldrinker, this blade now glows with an inner light that pulses like a heartbeat, channeling the primordial power of a leyline. You gain a +5 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. While you hold this sword, any magical light, darkness, or atmospheric effect within a 60-foot radius of you is treated as nonmagical and breathable.

Empowered Counterspell. Planebreaker has five (5) Empowerment charges. The wielder can use their reaction and expend 1 charge to cast Counterspell at 9th level. If the triggering spell is cast at 10th level or higher, this counterspell automatically fails. If you successfully interrupt a spell in this way, you can choose to absorb the spell into the sword instead of dispersing it. The absorbed spell must have a casting time of one action or bonus action. The sword can only have one spell absorbed in this way at a time.

Primal Overflow. As an action, the wielder can release a spell absorbed by the blade. When you do, the spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster, but is otherwise treated as if you cast the spell. The spell remains absorbed indefinitely or until released from the sword. Absorbing a new spell replaces the one stored within the sword.

Magic Surge. Planebreaker has three (3) Surge charges. As an action, the wielder may channel a small fraction of the Weave through their being, transforming themselves into another class of their choice for one minute. When taking on the new class using this ability, you gain all features and abilities of that class up to your current character level, and have unlimited access to the class' entire spell list for the duration. This ability can only be used once per day. When the ability expires, the user gains five (5) levels of Exhaustion.

Leyline Mastery. While attuned to the blade, you gain proficiency in an additional saving throw of your choice, and your spell save DC increases by 2.

Destroying Planebreaker. Only the Wish spell, similar magic, or the power of a god may destroy the blade. When the last charge or stored spell is expended from the blade, if no spells are stored within, it disintegrates into dust.

Cursed

When you first attune to Planebreaker, you must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or be overwhelmed by the sword’s power, causing you to permanently lose 1d20 maximum hit points. These hitpoints can only be restored by a Wish spell or similar magic.

When a creature unattunes from this artifact or the blade is destroyed, the creature must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw, gaining one level of Exhaustion for every three points of the result below the DC.
