The Bloodwake

The Bloodwake, ominously nicknamed "Red Tide" by those who first lay eyes on it, is a warship that strikes fear into the hearts of sailors and coastal towns alike. Commanded by the infamous pirate Captain Red Tide, the Bloodwake is known for its brutal efficiency in naval warfare and piracy.

Captain Red Tide has a terrifying reputation. Known for always leaving one survivor from his attacks to spread tales of horror, he has mastered the art of psychological warfare. However, those who survive and choose to join his crew are bound by an unspoken pact, a little-known secret among those who sail under his flag.

The Bloodwake is trailed by a strange red substance in the water, a phenomenon attributed to a peculiar barnacle infestation the ship picked up decades ago. This eerie red trail fades quickly once the ship has passed, leading many to believe it is part of a curse haunting Captain Red Tide. This belief is whispered among sailors, but few dare to mention it more than once for fear of invoking the ship's wrath.

Bloodwake's Dread

  • Bloodwake's Dread: Once per encounter, the Bloodwake can unleash a wave of supernatural terror. When activated, a red mist emanates from the ship, trailing it in the water and spreading out to a radius of 300 feet. All enemy ships and creatures within this radius must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they are afflicted by the following effects for 1 minute:
    • Frightened: The affected creatures are frightened, giving them disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks while the source of their fear is within line of sight.
    • Disoriented: Enemy ships have disadvantage on all navigational checks and cannot perform complex maneuvers like Come About or Full Sail.
    • Weakened Resolve: The morale of the affected crew is shattered, reducing their combat effectiveness and causing them to suffer a -2 penalty to attack rolls and damage.
