Boddynock washes up on shore outside of Saltmarsh, with no memories of who he is or how he got ashore. He stumbles into town, passing a suspicious looking cove.
Saraden of Driebrook sits on the dock in town getting drunk, thinking about his failed mutiny, being marooned, and finding himself in this backwater fishing town.
Taznaar Baziros sits in the The Snapping Line with her apprentice Hannah Rist, who is more interested in flirting with the patrons of the inn than paying attention to her instruction.
In the back of the Snapping Line, DeeJay Music plucks tunes on his lute, entertaining the few customers.
Saraden enters the Inn to get another drink and flirt with Hannah, making Deejay jealous and move off his stool to flirt as well. Taznaar looks unimpressed by this. In the midst of the flirting, Boddynock walks in asking questions about where he is.
The party goes to the cove that Boddynock mentions, known to the locals as Crabber's Cove. They discover that it has become a smuggler's hideout. They kill the smugglers and return to the town.
They go to The Empty Net, an upscale inn frequented by the local traders, merchants, and town council members. They find Gellan Primewater, a town council member, and tell him about Crabber's Cove. Primewater recruits them to investigate the Haunted House north of town.
