Adelia is a very intelligent, slightly chaotic wizard.
She has an animated mask familiar named Hjordis who she is almost constantly wearing. She has an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other who are always bickering in her ear about the choices she is making.
She likes cigars; dislikes alcohol and sleeping outside. She mostly makes decisions based on the fun factor, and it has served her decently well so far.
Backstory
Birth - I grew up on a little farm in Faerun. An only child, my mother (Josephine) and father (Markus) expected me to not only take over the farm, but to marry our neighbor’s son (Noah) and combine our farms. Needless to say, I was never interested in farming (or marriage).
10 years old - I was wandering the forest behind our little farm and came across an abandoned shack. In this shack, I found a curious little tome, filled with incantations. Every chance I got from then on, I would shirk my farming duties in favor of reading and practicing these spells. I wasn’t sure how anyone would react to this, so I did so in secret.
11 years old - I first learned how to create light, then fire, then bigger fire. My thirst for magic knowledge was unquenchable. I went to every bookstore the nearest town had to offer in search of new spellbooks. I started to take pieces of the things I’ve learned and try to create new spells, not in the book. Sometimes, nothing happened. Other times, explosions happened. I never was able to create my own spell, but I learned a lot from these experimentations.
14 years old - I learned new spells from a tome I found at one of the smaller, less kept bookstores in the town. I learned to fly, to dispel other magic, and to make myself go faster.
15 years old - Noah caught me while I was practicing. As payment for not telling anyone, he asked for a kiss. I gave in, curious to have my first kiss anyway. And who better to experiment with than my soon to be betrothed? It was horrible. Wet, mushy, and it seemed as though he wanted to suck my lips off.
We broke apart and he smiled at me, lopsided. Seemingly satisfied, he turned and left. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, then went back to practicing.
16 years old - Noah was very persistent in following me around. I asked him, “Don’t you have farming to do?” and he said, “Don’t you?” He tried to kiss me again, but I quickly conjured fire and burned him a little on the arm. He never tried again, and he stopped following me everywhere.
17 years old - I found a theoretical book on interdimensional travel. I quickly became obsessed with the concept, and though I was mostly adept with fire magic, I set out to master travel magic.
When my parents did inevitably find out about my magic, they were mostly concerned for my safety. Josephine specifically thought it was too dangerous to continue, but Markus sought out a teacher for me, saying I would probably do it anyway (I would) and he’d rather I be safe about it. He never was able to find a teacher for me.
18 years old - My parents started making wedding plans. I was devastated, and argued day and night about not wanting to. I wanted to travel to a big city and learn more magic. They said I was being ungrateful, selfish, and inconsiderate to Noah. So I ran away. I have not seen my parents since. I have been living inn to inn, searching for any arcane users.
When I finally made it to the first major city, I did find an arcane user who was practiced in the arts of interdimensional travel (Stylus)! I have been training alongside him, learning how to pop from one end of the room to the other. This type of magic is significantly harder, so it has been slow going.
20 years old - Noah found me, and begged me to come back home to him. I am very confused by his actions. We have never been particularly close in my opinion. I very firmly told him no and not to bother me again or I would singe him with my fire (again).
24 years old - I have accidentally found myself on another plane of existence with new friends and allies, fighting our morals and trying to do right by ourselves and the other inhabitants of this island. Which means that I DID TRAVEL MAGIC! Inadvertently or not, still an accomplishment. Now I just have to figure out exactly what I did and how to do it again.
