The most ancient of myths regarding the creation of the world and the heavens speak of the primordial essence. Within it's crystal sphere, fresh from it's birth by the hand of Lord Ao, the universe existed as chaos and timeless nothingness, a roiling storm of misty shadows, neither dark nor light, as the two had not yet separated.

In time, the primordial essence coalesced into twin Goddesses, identical and beautiful, but polar opposites. Shar, raven-haired and shrouded in darkness, was born to represent the dark, and her sister, Selûne, silver-haired and radiant, manifested as the light.

The twin Goddesses loved and cared for each other deeply, seeing their existence as singular in nature, not separate entities, later becoming known as the Two-Faced Goddess or the Sisters-Who-Were-One. Their opposite nature served to compliment one another and together they brought order into the primordial chaos of existence.

Eventually, the two would become opposed, as Selûne sought to help introduce warmth into the universe, so life could thrive.

Shar's relationship with her sister and the other Gods of the Faerûn pantheon exist in an uneasy peace with one another, often erupting into turmoil when one happens to disagree with another.

Ultimately, Shar's goal is to return the universe to the very void which existed before her creation. Ironically, Shar desires something she herself has never and could never know, but this will not stop her from constantly plotting to reduce the power of the other gods and bring her goals to life.

Cult's of worshippers, known typically as Sharrans, have heavily dedicated their life to worshipping Shar, though many who simply work in the night or have experienced a traumatic loss will reach to her for safety or security.

Many cults of Sharrans seek to sew chaos and turmoil, often driving many to worship Shar through manipulation or other shadowy means. The ultimate goal for an ambitious Sharran, is to become a Dark Justiciar, by passing the trials within the Gauntlet of Shar and spilling the blood of a Selûnite in bloody sacrifice to their dark Mother. In doing so, they not only fuel Shar's power, but they drain Selûne of hers.
