Traveling with the caravan, we find ourselves for the moment among good company. Delmuth is a friendly traveler, although his tales bring us worry. For the moment our cover seems solid, with little interest in our secluded mountain home. That changes when conversation turns to the great war between Thera and Throal. We have a distinct lack of knowledge of such important events, like the death of king Needas and the sky battles with airships and dragons. Such things would have been common knowledge..... Thankfully Valteri Tomser changed the subject to our destination. We will stop for a day on Axalalail, on the way to Urupa. Valteri much to our chagrin asks about the brothels. As Axalalail was settled by windlings and t'skrang, it will certainly have.... that for him. After, if we all make it that far, lies Urupa. This city lies on the coast where the serpent river joins the sea. It seems likely to be the best place to learn more of the world on the outside. Delmuth asks us to stay on at least to this point. The world it seems is still dangerous, with Theran slavers, and the espagra that attacked the caravan just before we found them.
The days travel complete, we stop at a small thicket with a stream. Night will fall soon, but first we have a dinner of beans. We are told to bed down a bit off from the others, down wind. We work out the details of the nights watches, and settle in for the night.
Valteri is the first to notice shapes in the forest, his alarm barely coming before arrows rain from the forest. We seem beset from the forest across the road and the rocks we are camped amongst. The battle would have likely overwhelmed our small group were it not for the stout dwarves and their war hammers. The same would be true without us, if we hadn't joined this caravan. Hopefully this will convince Delmuth of our good intentions. If we survive, of course. The battle is long, but we use the cover well and one by one the bandits fall. Some try to flee, Boris Hillmens giving chase through the forest. I let one go, choosing to focus on one who seemed a leader. He rallied the one I spared, just in time for a mind dagger to bring him down. Vyktor Wyvernjack didn't technically kill a fleeing enemy, as he had turned to futilely join the fight. In maneuvering for a shot, I stand near the prone figure, realizing the enemy still lived, barely.
The last bandit to fall was absolutely splattered, in the end 2 were messily dead, 6 unconscious, and a couple were gone, lost among the trees. As we regroup, we realize that everybody survived, although Boris and Tokoba were wounded. We tie up the unconscious enemies, Vyktor uses his power to cremate the bodies of the rest. Delmuth warns us of horrors that could re-animate the dead. We aren't sure if we should let on what we know of such things, so we stay silent. The armor and weapons are stowed in the wagons, for sale after we turn in the bandits in to the authorities. We also consider interrogating any that wake up. These things must wait for the light of morning.
