History of the East West Inn

The East West Inn has a rich history that dates back several generations. It was established nearly 75 years ago by a visionary half-orc named Grathor Ironfoot. Grathor, originally from the Ashgulg clan, saw the potential of a rest stop at the crossroads of the East West Road and the North Road, which leads to the perilous Low Marsh.

Founding and Early Days

Grathor was a skilled blacksmith and brewer, traits he inherited from his human mother and orcish father. His mixed heritage allowed him to navigate the complex politics of the region. With the Ashgulg clan's blessing, he established the inn to serve travelers and traders, ensuring it was a place of respite and safety.

The Ironfoot Family

The Ironfoot family has run the East West Inn for three generations, each adding their unique touch to the establishment. The current proprietors are Grathor's grandson, Rurik Ironfoot, and his wife, Elara.

Rurik Ironfoot

Rurik, a robust and friendly half-orc, inherited his grandfather's brewing skills and has expanded the inn's offerings to include a wide range of beverages. His warm demeanor and excellent storytelling make him a favorite among the guests.

Elara Ironfoot

Elara, a human with a knack for cooking and hospitality, has transformed the inn's menu into a culinary delight. Her recipes, inspired by both her homeland and the surrounding regions, draw travelers from far and wide.

The Inn's Reputation

The East West Inn is renowned for its quality service, hearty meals, and safe haven. Despite its remote location, it has become a vital stop for those traveling to the Ashgulg settlements to the east or Embermere to the west. The inn's strategic position at the crossroads also makes it a crucial point for information exchange, adding to its allure.

Special Permission and Relations

Running the inn required special permission from the Ashgulg clan. Grathor Ironfoot's diplomatic skills and reputation for fairness earned him this rare privilege. The Ironfoot family maintains good relations with the Ashgulg orcs, ensuring mutual respect and cooperation. This relationship is critical, especially considering the dangerous path leading north to Low Marsh, a hub of scoundrels and smuggling operations.

The Inn Today

Under Rurik and Elara's management, the inn continues to thrive. They have upheld the tradition of quality and safety, making it a beloved stop for all who pass through. The inn's ever-cooking pot of stew, fresh breads, and unique milk and alcohol mixes are particularly famous, drawing visitors back time and again.

The East West Inn stands as a testament to the Ironfoot family's dedication, a beacon of hospitality in a rugged and often perilous region.

She has a natural talent for storytelling and often entertains guests with tales she's heard from travelers. Thalia is also learning the basics of brewing from her father, showing a keen interest in the family business.

Borin Ironfoot

Age: 7
Description: Borin is a quiet but observant boy who prefers to spend his time helping his mother in the kitchen. He has inherited Elara's culinary skills and enjoys experimenting with new recipes. Borin is also quite strong for his age, thanks to his orcish heritage, and occasionally assists in fetching supplies and other physical tasks around the inn.

The Bouncer

Kael "Ironclaw" Drakar

Description: Kael is a formidable figure, standing at nearly seven feet tall with a muscular build that commands respect. He has a mysterious past, and rumors suggest he was once a feared mercenary or perhaps a warrior of noble blood fallen from grace. Kael has dark, piercing eyes and a scar running down the left side of his face, a reminder of a battle long past.

Personality: Despite his intimidating appearance, Kael is fiercely loyal to the Ironfoot family. He is quiet and reserved, rarely speaking unless necessary. His presence alone is enough to deter troublemakers, but when needed, he can swiftly and efficiently deal with any threats to the inn or its inhabitants.

Reason for Staying: The exact reason for Kael's unwavering loyalty to the Ironfoot family is a closely guarded secret. Some speculate that he has a debt of honor to repay, while others believe he found something in the family he never had—a sense of belonging and purpose. Regardless, his dedication to protecting the inn and the family is unquestionable, making him an invaluable asset to the East West Inn.

With the Ironfoot family's dedication and Kael's protection, the East West Inn continues to be a sanctuary for travelers and a cornerstone of the region's community.
