"I was built for war. And then I was born for nothing."

- Glaive

A warforged who was trained as a paladin, taking up the Oath of Conquest in service of Amarillia. Glaive was a powerful force on the battlefield.

In 4989, Glaive witnessed something during an incident near Daskaran that would prove pivotal to a different kind of battle in Sharn—namely, a legal one. When Labyrinth Investigations was hired to find any witnesses to contradict the testimony of the accused, Angelina ir'Tain learned about Glaive, and that the warforged could prove pivotal to the prosecution's case.

Although Angelina made arrangements with House Olander to get the warforged to the Twelve Pillars Courthouse in time to take the stand, Glaive was murdered by a civilian in the gallery (likely arranged by the accused, but ultimately unproven, as the killer was swiftly disintegrated).

With a murder in Sharn's biggest courthouse and mistrial almost inevitable, Prosecutor Vonkarma demanded that Angelina immediately cast reincarnate to bring the warforged back to life so that its testimony could be heard—and so that Vonkarma could maintain his perfect record. Angelina requested a cleric to perform a revivify instead, but Vonkarma was relentless, claiming any further delay would be unacceptable. Angelina acquiesced to the prosecutor's demands and cast the spell, which caused Glaive to return to life in the new body of a human man.

The testimony was heard, and Glaive was sent on his way without so much as an apology, compensation, or support for now living as an organic being.

Glaive did not adapt well. He was not allowed to return to his company of warforged, who were being use for special missions that would have proved lethal to humans. He had be made—forged, even—for conquest, and he had been robbed of his purpose. The only reason his soul had willingly returned from beyond the grave was to continue to serve his purpose as a solider, and now he had nothing.

Absent his only purpose and lacking direction, Glaive would descend into madness as he found biological life unbearable. In his fugue state, he wandered onto one of the many battlefields of the Last War that had become a breeding ground for the vengeful spirits of the undead. There, the tortured souls of the fallen convinced him to break his Oath. and seek revenge on those responsible for his misfortune.

Glaive's quest for revenge would ultimately launch the events of the Mystery of the Flickering Lantern.
