For the last 604 years, the Royal Bodyguards have been protecting the Royal Family of Gyristan. After the decimation of their empire at the hands of the mage class, the Arkaiun people were scattered to the Four Winds. While the Navy, Merchant and half of the Peasant class settled the northern reaches of the continent of Syran, the Noble class gave up their freedom and choose to serve the dragons on their continent and the Mage class has disappeared, thought wiped out; the Military and the other half of the Peasant class wandered various lands looking for a home. Before long, they come upon the nation of Krinshar embroiled in a bitter civil war. An entire half of the nation was trying to split off and escape the brutal tyranny and racism displayed by Krinshar’s emperor. When the Arkaiun people happened upon the rebellious nobles, the rebel army was losing and close to extinction.
The Arkaiuns saw the righteousness of the freedom that the rebels were fighting for and after many days of watching the battle decided that they no longer needed a new land to call their own and approached the leader of the rebels, Orilan Mediose. So the leader of the Arkaiun people, known only as Inara, presented a deal to Orilan. The Arkaiuns offered to become a slave race to the new nation and in return their best and brightest would be allowed to serve as loyal protectors to the throne. Further, the race as a whole would use their respective talents to support the kingdom as property of the crown. At first, Orilan was appalled at the idea of slavery and wished to refuse. Over time, He came to understand why the Arkaiun people wished to put their lives in his hands and he set about creating the core laws that would govern how the Arkaiun were to be treated. One of the first laws was that none of the terms of their slavery could be altered for any reason so that future rulers could not mistreat the Arkaiun people.
Once the treaty was signed and implemented, the rebel army went on to push the Krinshar army back to the southern border of their land with the help of the Arkaiun people. After the long and costly war, the people of this new nation accepted Orilan as their new King and the Arkaiun were given a home for the first time in almost five hundred years. This new kingdom became known as Gyristan.
Later, Orilan was coerced to take a wife and decided to marry his most loyal protector, Inara. This event set a precedent that exists to the current day in which the current King may select one of his Royal Bodyguards to be his spouse but only if she is willing to accept. This has resulted in Kings of Gyristan of varying degrees of mixed heritage ascending the throne. As a matter of fact, the current King is half and half but does not realize this.
Over time, the Royal Bodyguards have undergone changes to the uniform, training and even in living style but the laws that govern them have always remained the same. They are charges of the Crown and every aspect of their well-being is seen to through the Royal Treasury.
*Note* This is the third iteration of the campaign. Each iteration has taken place at different time period in the history of Gyristan.
