At one time, in the early days of the Empire, humans worshipped Erona in her aspect as a nature god, and during those days the emperors were buried in the Dimwood Forest at the Tombs of the Nine Holy Emperors. This was a time of harmony between humans and nature, and the Empire respected the land, the forests, and the animals, and took only what was needed.
But the Empire discovered Mount Zardeq, and started worshipping Nevea and the Zardeq gods, and thereafter, the Empire built mighty roads, slashing through the forests, and building glorious cities in their place. The humans no longer looked to the Earth for strength, but looked to the sky for inspiration. The druids were cast out to the Dimwood Forest, which was left as a refuge for them.
