3/5/300 - The party begin this session still trapped beneath Carnspor. A spherical boulder still rolling down perpetually down the entrance slope, teleporting to the top each time it reached the bottom.
Several hours past, with both Ruric and Elnorin analysing the spells involved on both the archway and the trap. They determined that abjuration magic (symbology to recognise the boulder and transfer the kinetic energy to power the rest of the trap) and conjuration magic (to move the boulder from the bottom to the top of the ramp). The boulder also contained an evocation spell. The gateway had abjuration to ground the magic in the rocks, divination to scry the intended destination and conjuration to teleport. Ruric spent many hours recreating the rune from the boulder that the rest of the trap recognised and calculating a minimum speed for a member of the party to pass through and teleport safely. At the same time the others used their hunting traps to create a 'yanking' device to add some momentum to the jump (they called this the 'auto-yoink machine).
4/5/300 - After 13 hours they attempted the first run. Heskan stood ready to attempt the action. It turned out he had looped the rope one too many times and he broke the 'auto-yoink machine' as he leaped forward. Stumbling across the threshold he was struck, full force, by the boulder that provided him enough energy to transport to the top. He was then dragged down the ramp by the boulder and deposited at the bottom having lost his rune stone. Heskan was saved by a potion of invulnerability that Ruric had given him before.
After this the party disassembled the arch and prepared to disarm the trap and let the boulder into the room. Heskan struck a random rune, one of the conjuration spells, that caused the teleportation to fail. This caused parts for the boulder to teleport and the object to spin away. The inner ball of eldritch power exploded, damaging the portions of the archway and the party hidden behind these blocks. The party had escaped.
They left the catacombs, speaking briefly with the homunculus again and taking a pair of sending stones plus a staff of the adder from the workshop. They agreed with the create that 3 heavy slams at the entrance would ask it to deactivate the traps and admit people.
They also took the animated door to the top of a tower where it could forever watch the world. Ruric caught up with missing sleep whilst the others drank mead, sitting with the door.
Briath, Elnorin and Heskan spoke with Aine Stormsword about what had occurred below with Aine sending word to The Moot for the druids.
Elnorin took some downtime whilst Braith groomed the horses. Heskan then left to see Prima Claudius "Ursa" to have his armour repaired. On his way over he was waved over by a cloaked figure. Mina, his childhood friend, had been sent to deliver a message. Shortly after he had left the mountain Nymbryxion, the silver dragon ruling over Heskan's village, was sent a plea for help by Irthosrach. She was an ancient copper dragon and lorekeeper who lives in the Veiled Hills. They didn't specify why they needed help but were seemingly assailed. Heskan would spend time over the day explaining what was occurring and Mina expressed concerns over the humans owning Carnspor. She though that the dragons, as children of the divine, should be allowed to become gods in the coming Conjunction. Heskan advised she took the issue to Nymbryxion. Ursa also agreed to fix Heskan's armour.
One Ruric was awake, the party and Mina gathered in the great hall to eat. Jock "Shortshanks" MacLaren had seen Mina with Heskan and spread a rumour that Heskan's wife had come down from a mountain to scold him. Mina was curt with both Braith and Ruric whilst showing respect to Elnorin as an elf. The party agreed to go to help Irthosrach, with Ruric and Elnorin going to see Paullus Accius Arius to see if he knw any further lore on Syndrid's 'towers'.
Paullus knew of two other locations. On of the river north east of Ath and another near the northern edge of the Maw of Umberlee. He knew there were seven in total, which includes Carnspor.
The party met with Aine again and passed her a sending stone for her to use to contact the party. The party then agreed to send Braith on horse to Ostan O Thuaidh to retrieve a map from Rufus before taking a boat across Loch Carn to Baile.
