12/5/300 - As the party prepare to stop for the evening Braith casts pass without trace to hide their path. As they camped Ruric Ironfoot and Braith talked on the ideals of law and tribe. Braith asked briefly into Ruric's past, especially around the death of his family (something he had mentioned in the trial) but was brushed off by the dwarf. Heskan and Elnorin's watch passed uneventfully.
13/5/300 - The group arrived at Cavernum Laci to find the watchtowers abandoned. The gates of the settlement were guarded by two legionaries who urged the group to get into cover. They explained that a beast had been terrorising the quarry, not letting anyone leave. They suspected it to be a dragon. The party were directed towards the government offices where they met Titus Barrius Lurio, the local Quaestor. They found Lurio to be objectionable but agreed to help in exchange for freeing the local slaves. After some mild intimidation, Lurio agreed.
They were assigned a guild, a young legionary called Caepio who noted his brother Dio had been amongst the lost.
They visited the Stonecutter's guild, finding a younger dwarf called Piso in distress. He was the head of the guild but was distraught at the failed attempts to get the quarry workers from their 'prison' across the pit. He called the beast Stonerender and Heskan identified the beast from a description. It was a wyvern, a mountain dwelling cousin of dragons. It seemed to be another refugee of giant activity in the mountains.
After stowing their gear in the local barracks, they carefully crept across the quarry, avoiding the wyvern's attentions. Here they tended 9 quarry workers back to consciousness but others had died of thirst/hunger before this. They passed the night in the small cavern.
14/5/300 - A storm struck the area in the morning. The party decided to draw Stonerender out before escorting the quarry workers out. The winds made flight difficult for the beast but she ambushed the party as they moved. The fight was over as soon as it started. Stonerender was felled as she attempted to flee, Heskan putting the injured beast out of her misery. On doing so he felt a slight pang of divine judgement (connected to the shield).
Braith and Ruric climbed into the surrounding area to find the nest and after some searching, discovered a near hatched egg. Ruric destroyed the egg and the pair rejoined the others. Heskan and Elnorin escorted the stonecutters back to town, Elnorin taking them all the way to the apothecary. The party closed the deal with Lurio, who told them to leave, parting ways with the repulsive dwarf. They gave Piso some money for the freed slaves and left town.
They stopped at the theyn's camp on the road back to Baile.
