Day 14
The party questioned Ashok in a truthful aura cast by Heskan. He didn't reveal a great deal other than he believed killing him would end poorly for someone and that he had been working for Asmodea since before they left the Feywild ('The Land which was'). Ultimately they deemed him useless and Amidir Min'alth ended his life. True to his word a curse launched out a ricocheted off of Amidir's blessing from the Queen of Ravens. It hit Elnorin.
Heskan proclaimed that they would venture into the city to help people. Ruric Ironfoot said that he would go with him whilst Braith suggested that they ask Arinet and Bankanir. Arinet looked terrified at the prospect whilst Bankanir said that despite the dangers that he would die for Heskan....
Amidir, Braith and Elnorin saw to the pyre for Ashok, ensuring he never came back. The others encountered a large patrol. Heskan strode out to tell them Ashok had died, which met with calls that he had risen before. Next he attempted to threaten them but being outnumbered 4:1 took away from the threat. Ruric cast many strange and varied illusions from the Deck of Illusion whilst Heskan and Bankanir engaged. Soon the group became overwhelmed and Heskan was brought down. It wasn't long before Ruric was brought low and, in a brave last stand, Bankanir kept his word. There, on the streets of Duskhaven, Ruric Ironfoot and Bankanir died. That patrol took them to the Quod, in a hope of taking refuge, but were turned away without the living Heskan or the bodies. The traitor Eventide asked that Heskan be locked up as he was dangerous.
After the others failed to return, the rest of the party became worried and went off in search of them. It wasn't long before they came across the strange scene of the final battle of both Ruric and Bankanir with illusions still in place. Braith followed the drag marks to the Quod.
In the Quod Heskan spoke with his mystery room mate who turned out to be none other than Syndrid 'the mad' who had been imprisoned by Ashok to torture for his knowledge.
The party presented themselves as a neutral force and were admitted to the Quod. Here Lucya, warden of the Quod, spoke with them. Not wanting anything to do with the situation and with no formal reason to keep Heskan prisoner, she released him. She also gave over the bodies of Bankanir and Ruric. The party left sad but grateful.
The group headed back to the safe house of Codruta (who had been accompanying them). After getting them settled, Amidir headed to Ghita, the town's overseer and civic leader, to negotiate for Syndrid's release.
Ghita was less than happy that Ashok was dead without trial but Amidir's silver-tongue smoothed over the worse. After the discussion she agreed to release Syndrid but on the condition that the group left town and never returned.
Amidir spoke with Syndrid as they walked.
Back at the safe house the group talked, mourning the loss of their friends. Syndrid revealed some of his knowledge on the plains including routes to Dinas Affaraon, the home realm and the underworld....
