09/06/25Atezia’s World, once a perfect creation within her father Gra’al’s sphere, now bears the scar of a great betrayal: The Crack of the World—or Q’s Crack—a massive rift left behind by her brother Q’s treachery. The crack splits the world in half, a deep and lasting reminder of the world-shattering event. While powerful magic was performed to stabilize the planet and prevent its collapse, the cosmetic damage remains, etched into the landscape. The planet still functions, but its geography and water levels have been irreversibly altered.
The Crack of the World (Q’s Crack)
- Q’s Crack is an enormous fissure that spans the length of the world, splitting it almost entirely in half. The crack itself is a jagged canyon, hundreds of miles wide in some areas, descending deep into the planet’s core.
- Though stabilized with magic, the crack is still active in a way—visibly pulsing with arcane energy and serving as a natural divide between the major landmasses.
- Water levels dropped across the world as the planet was magically filled, creating dramatic cliff formations and new lowlands along the coasts. These cliffs now dominate large sections of the landscape and are considered to be one of the most significant geographical changes caused by the event.
The World’s Geography Post-Crack
The world is divided into various regions, shaped by the fissure and its aftermath:
-
Cliff Regions
- The cliffs formed along many coastlines due to the drop in global water levels are towering and treacherous. Some of these cliffs stretch for hundreds of miles, acting as natural barriers between regions. They are often riddled with caves and ancient ruins, offering hidden passages for those brave enough to navigate them.
- The Cliff Cities that have emerged along these formations are home to traders, explorers, and risk-takers who have learned to adapt to the new geography. Rope bridges and elevators connect these cliff-dwelling societies to the plains below.
-
Continents Affected by the Crack
- The continents of the world have adapted to the changes brought on by the Crack. In some places, whole regions have collapsed or been reshaped by the sudden geological shifts.
- River systems and lakes have been altered, redirected by the new land formations, often creating new natural wonders like cascading waterfalls from the cliff regions or vast new wetlands where rivers once flowed uninterrupted.
- Many of the former lowlands have become desolate, barren expanses where the sea once reached, leaving behind salt flats, crumbling riverbeds, or fertile plains where new life is emerging.
-
Sections Near the Crack
- The areas closest to Q’s Crack are the most dramatically transformed, with the land either rising to form tall plateaus or dropping into deep, uninhabitable gorges.
- These lands are particularly rich in arcane anomalies due to the magic used to stabilize the planet. Unpredictable storms, strange glowing plants, and energy fields have become common sights near the crack, attracting scholars and mages eager to study these phenomena.
-
Oceanic Changes
- The oceans have receded, leaving behind jagged coastlines and archipelagos where larger landmasses once stood. The lowering of the water has created new land bridges between previously isolated continents, fostering a surge in trade and exploration between different regions of the world.
- However, the exposed sea beds are often dangerous, filled with debris from ancient civilizations and strange creatures that once lived in the deep waters. Salvagers and adventurers have taken to exploring these once-submerged regions, hoping to find valuable artifacts.
The Impact of Q’s Crack
-
Cultural and Political Divides: The crack has divided nations and cultures, sometimes literally. Continent-spanning empires have fractured due to the sheer geographical challenges posed by the cliffs and gorges, while new nations have formed along the crack, claiming dominion over the edges and mining the magical energy that hums beneath the surface.
-
Religious Significance: Many view The Crack of the World as a divine wound, and shrines to Atezia and Q have sprung up along the rift. Worshippers of Atezia see the crack as a reminder of her strength in stabilizing the planet after Q’s betrayal, while others who sympathize with Q consider it a symbol of rebellion against divine order.
-
Magical Phenomena: The magic used to stabilize the crack has left an indelible mark on the world. Magical storms, unpredictable arcane energy fields, and mysterious ley line surges are now commonplace around the crack, offering both danger and opportunity to those brave enough to explore its depths. Scholars and adventurers frequently travel to these regions, studying the volatile magic and attempting to harness it for their own purposes.
