The Rise of Vorakesh
RACE: Naga (Snake Men)
-
Reptoid Humanoids, many different forms of Nagas, Point Cost = 4 or more (Serpentspawn, Venomspawn)
Score 348
08/14/19The most common type encountered is the " Abomination" (so-called by explorers, and pictured here). However, the " Pure-blood" Nagas are more humanoid and walk on two legs. Still other types can have multiple heads, more arms, or be entirely snake-like in appearance. Any Naga PCs should be either an Abomination or Pure-blood. Note: only Pure-bloods can be casters.
The Naga race is constantly in a struggle for territory against many different foes. The fiercest contest is with the Lizardmen, as they too use old temples and ruins for homes. They tend to avoid the Mahkim and the Catfolk as well as the Amazons, in direct conflict. Instead, they may try to influence and trick these races, or pit them against each other.
It is believed that Naga intervention is responsible for the current animosity between Catfolk and the Amazons, but even that is more of a distrust, dislike, and aversion, rather than open warfare.
Ancient enemies of the lizardmen, nagas spent centuries hidingin the shadows from their hated cousins. On the day the old empire fell, they rose up, giving thanks to their snake god and seeking to claim what was theirs. Since that time, the halfsnake, half-humanoid nagas have grown strong in Zanaga. Under the guidance of the Priestesses of Set, they constantly fight the remnants of the lizardmen, hoping to exterminate them once and for all. Even though the nagas are opposed by the Mahkim, many former lizardman temples are now nests of naga power.
Among these temples are Omaga the Obsidian Sunrise, whose gleaming corridors echo to the screams of Set’s sacrifices, and Jatok, the Water Temple, a sunken tomb into which all of Zanaga’s rivers eventually flow. Treacherous and cunning, nagas often manipulate explorers into finding ancient lizardman artifacts for them, or wiping out Mahkim villages that stand in their way. Some such pawns might be lucky enough to escape with their lives, but many others are coaxed into the jungle depths to fill the belly of the serpent god, Set.
Lies and mystery surround Set, the nagas’ serpent god. Legend has it that Set is the first of the nagas, a huge snake man as tall as the highest jungle trees. A survivor of the catastrophe that brought down the lizardman empire, Set works from the shadows, helping his children reclaim their birthright and growing strong upon their offerings. The nagas believe Set will one day be strong enough to slither out into the world from his
hiding place and, one by one, devour the other gods of Zanaga.
