Overall Description:

Kinvara is a sprawling marshland region situated along the western coast of Pangaia. A vast expanse of shimmering lakes, meandering rivers, and verdant marshes stretching as far as the eye can see. The landscape is a mosaic of waterways and lush vegetation, creating a unique and challenging environment to traverse.

The terrain is a defining feature of Kinvara, making travel quite difficult for those who aren't adapted to aquatic or semi-aquatic life. While the Turtlefolk have skillfully cultivated vast farmlands, fishing grounds, and intricate channels connecting the region, navigating this labyrinth of waterways can be a daunting task for outsiders.

The Turtlefolk, the native inhabitants of Kinvara, are renowned for their peaceful and welcoming nature. They are a vibrant and diverse people, with a rich culture steeped in trade, exploration, and a deep respect for their environment. While they generally prefer diplomacy and cooperation, they possess a formidable army, ready to defend their homeland with unwavering resolve should the need arise.

  • Shell Haven and Shell Guark: These twin capital cities serve as the heart of Kinvara, bustling hubs of trade, culture, and activity. Shell Haven, the elder of the two, exudes an air of ancient wisdom and tradition, while Shell Guark pulsates with the energy of commerce and innovation. Both cities offer a fascinating blend of architectural marvels, vibrant markets, and intriguing characters, providing endless opportunities for adventure and exploration.
  • Honey Brown University: Nestled near the bustling city of Shell Guark, Honey Brown University stands as a beacon of knowledge and adventure. Founded by a previous generation of Players, this prestigious institution is dedicated to training the next generation of heroes and scholars. Within its hallowed halls, students from diverse backgrounds hone their skills, unravel ancient mysteries, and forge their own destinies.
  • The Sapphire Coast: This pristine stretch of coastline holds profound significance for the Turtlefolk. It is believed to be the birthplace of their race, where Azuralite, the magnificent Sapphire Dragon, first emerged from the depths and bestowed her creative spark upon the world. The Sapphire Coast remains a place of pilgrimage and remembrance, where Turtlefolk from far and wide come to pay homage to their origins and seek inspiration from their ancestors.
  • Lilly Manshoon: Hidden amongst a vast expanse of lily pads, this secluded town built on a Giant Lily Pad, provides a safe haven for the Frogfolk. Lilypad Village is a place of mystery and wonder, where the boundaries between Meta are blurred.
  • Sweet Nuggets, and Honey Mine: Mining town discover and founded by the Honey Brown guild. The ore from the mine is a unique Honey Ore. The metal is a powerful item used in the creation of Guardian weapons and powerful artifacts.

Kinvara's People:

  • Turtlefolk: The Turtlefolk, the native inhabitants of Kinvara, are a proud and resilient people, deeply connected to their marshland home. They are known for their peaceful and friendly nature, always eager to welcome travelers and engage in trade. Their culture is deeply rooted in community, with a strong emphasis on cooperation and mutual respect. While they are generally slow to anger, they possess a fierce warrior spirit, ready to defend their homeland and their allies with unwavering determination.
  • Other Common Races: As a prominent member of the Guild Empire, Kinvara enjoys strong alliances with various other races, including the Labadorth, Catmeo, Ivork Ginara, Mousefolk, and some Ratfolk. These races often travel to Kinvara for trade, diplomacy, or to seek their fortune within the region's thriving guilds.
  • Good Relations: Kinvara also maintains good relations with Crimeria, thanks to Azuralite's connection to their Crafter Gods. Though less common in Kinvara, are welcomed with open arms and often find opportunities to contribute their unique skills and perspectives to the region's diverse community.

Culture:

  • Fashion: Due to their natural shells, Turtlefolk typically wear minimal clothing, favoring accessories that complement their unique forms. Bracelets, waistbands, and bracers adorned with intricate carvings or precious gems are common adornments, reflecting their individual tastes and status.
  • Language: The Turtlefolk possess their own distinct language, Shell Tongue,  characterized by its melodic tones and intricate grammar. They also employ a complex system of waystations, strategically placed throughout the marshlands, to aid in navigation. These waystations bear inscriptions in the Shell Tongue language, a testament to their rich history and cultural heritage.

·        Art: Stories and folklore – These things are treasured by all Turtlefolk and they are often renown storytellers themselves. Although they can tend to give to many details. Music – The turtles are fan of drums making them often from past turtlefolk shells. Gem carvings – Gems are a honored item in Kinvara and are often carved into different objects Shell Carving – This is such a large part of the economy that a guild exclusive to Turtlefolk call the Shell Carvers arose.

o   Shell carving is a huge part of the culture and a way to honor the dead. If a turtlefolk body is found in the wilds it is custom to return it to the nearest Shell Carver guild. All carved shells are marked, anyone wearing an unmarked shell is marked as a Befouler, enemy of turtlefolk.

·        Taboos and Traditions: Shell carving is a sacred practice in Kinvara, used to honor the dead and create the region's unique currency. It is customary to return any turtlefolk body found in the wilds to the nearest Shell Carver guild, ensuring a proper burial and the preservation of their shell. All carved shells are marked with a special enchantment, and anyone found wearing an unmarked shell is considered an enemy of the turtlefolk.

Calendar, Holidays, and Observances

  • Primis Crepuit: Celebrates the day the first Turtleborn hatched.
  • Draco Ovum: A celebration that truly occurs once a century when Azuralite lays trueborn Dragon eggs. In non-laying years, they celebrate Azuralite and her dragon children.
  • Lunar Festival: Happens in the winter month when the moon is strongest, celebrating the rumored friendship between the moon and Azuralite.
  • Festival of Magnificum Sapphire: Celebrates the ocean and the Ageless Prince (Karkvok the Armored One), who is said to rule the ocean and the waters in Kinvara.
  • Festival of Gemma: Celebrates the first Gemborn child of Azuralite and the Ageless Prince, who was a founding member of the Shell Exchange and brought Gem Magic to the people of Kinvara.

Religion:

  • The Turtlefolk do not adhere to a structured religion in the traditional sense. Instead, they hold a deep reverence for self and community, believing that each individual plays a vital role in the intricate tapestry of life. They honor Azuralite and the Ageless Prince as benevolent deities, recognizing their roles in the creation of their race and the world around them. Temples dedicated to these figures can be found in the major cities, serving as places of reflection and contemplation.

Military:

  • While the Turtlefolk are inherently peaceful, they maintain a formidable army, ready to defend their homeland and their allies should the need arise. The Azure Shell a guild, an elite force of warriors and strategists, serves as both the police and militia, protecting Kinvara's interests both domestically and abroad. Their training is rigorous, and their loyalty is unwavering, ensuring the safety and security of the region. All native guilds are required to keep a militia representing a portion of their members, who report to the local Azure Shell Chapter when called upon.
  • Militia Structure: In an emergency, the process follows an escalating chain:
    • Local Azure Shell guild deals with the issue using active members.
    • They call upon the local guilds' militia members.
    • They request aid from the Azure Guild militia chapter.
    • The request continues up the chain until the entire national militia is active.

Key Guilds:

  • The Founding Four: Shell Exchange, Hatchery Guild, Azure Shell, and Wandering Shell Guild.
  • Healers Guild: Works as a "free" guild and links the four.
  • Shell Carver's Guild: A sub-guild of the Shell Exchange with independence.
  • Other Large Guilds: Blue Honey Guild, Fishers Guild, and Gem Carver's Guild (closest allies of Crimeria guilds).

Laws and Leadership of region.

·        The country is run by the Council of Turtles, a large collection of representatives of cites/towns/guilds in Kinvara. They are responsible for leading the country decisions. Each city and guild has own rules and laws they can follow as long as they are in line with Council of Turtle standards. 

·        Alliances They are part of the Guild Empire and have open borders with them.

Laws Governing Magic

·        Magic is utilized, especially divine and arcane arts by the Gemborn. The enchanting and marking of shell carvings by the Shell Carver's Guild is a key magical law enforced to prevent murder and counterfeiting.

Politics and social structure

·        Guild membership is typically considered a rite of passage, most turtlefolk belong to at least one guild. Guilds are responsible for the majority or the social structure in Kinvara. Guild standing often can show ones standing in Kinvara.

·        It is a mostly socialist society due to the vast wealth created by the Shell Exchange and Wandering Shell guilds. All turtlefolk look after one another and violence or mistreatment among the turtlefolk is very uncommon.

Interest and Influence with the World

·        Kinvara holds immense global influence through its control of trade and currency. The Shell Exchange is typically recognized as the official currency exchange house of Pangaia, and the Wandering Shell as the postal service of Pangaia. They use this pervasive economic presence to maintain peaceful relations globally. Although peaceful, they were birthed to be protectors and guardians of Pangaia, making them a fearsome force if ever faced in combat.

Economy:

  • Kinvara's economy is driven by a thriving network of guilds, each specializing in a particular trade or craft. Guild taxes and contributions to the community ensure the region's prosperity and stability. The Shell Exchange, based in Kinvara, is recognized as the official currency exchange house of Pangaia, facilitating trade and commerce across the continent.
  • The Wandering Shell Guild, a vast network of messengers and couriers, operates as Pangaia's postal service, ensuring the efficient delivery of goods and information throughout the land. Their intricate knowledge of the marshlands and their unwavering dedication make them an indispensable part of Kinvara's economy.

Rich History

Azuralite was called back to Pangaia from her travels during the Undying War. After helping fight in the war, she married the Ageless Prince and this confluence of magic caused the Turtlefolk to be birthed into existence.

  • Firstborns: Gemma (Gemborn) and Rafelix (Dragonborn) were the first children of Azuralite and the Ageless Prince. Gemma brought Gem Magic to the people.
  • Founding of Guilds: The four main guilds (Shell Exchange, Hatchery Guild, Azure Shell, and Wandering Shell Guild) were founded, leading to the eventual uniting of the region and the formation of the Council of Turtles.

Important NPCs:

  • Azuralite: The revered creator of the Turtlefolk, Azuralite is a magnificent Sapphire Dragon, embodying wisdom, power, and benevolence. Her presence is deeply felt throughout Kinvara, and her legacy continues to inspire generations of Turtlefolk.
  • The Ageless Prince: A enigmatic and powerful being, the Ageless Prince is revered as the co-creator of the Turtlefolk. His origins remain shrouded in mystery, but his influence is undeniable, shaping the destiny of the Turtlefolk and guiding their path.
  • Donald Crackedshell: The leader of the Hatchery Guild and a close friend of the Ageless Prince, rumored to be immortal.

  • Waystations: A vast network of waystations and safe houses, established along the Wandering Shell travel routes, provides shelter and assistance to travelers navigating the intricate marshlands. These waystations are strategically placed, offering respite and supplies to those venturing through Kinvara's challenging terrain.
  • Canals and Rivers: Kinvara's intricate network of canals and rivers serves as vital arteries for trade and transportation. These waterways connect the region's cities and villages, facilitating the movement of goods and people throughout the marshlands.
