02/21/18The Burnt Candle Inn and Brewery is run by the Brewer family:
Abraham Brewer: Owner of the Burnt Candle Inn. He supports the King's policy of strict neutrality and will report any spying activity he sees directly to the King, who is a personal friend from the days of the war with the Eldritch Lord. He worships Ator, but that does not mean he wants the Kingdom to become a province of the Empire.
Eliza Brewer: Eliza, wife of Abraham, is a Nevea worshipper who would like to see Nevean influence grow in the Kingdom. She is sympathetic to the Aquilan cause, and might be willing to help an Aquilan agent. She is allies with Vernon, but so far has rebuffed his advances.
Matthew Brewer: Eldest son off Abraham and Eliza, all he is interested in is money. He is very observant and knows who is who in the Kingdom and what is going on. He will tell anyone any fact he knows for 1 copper coin per fact, which has to be paid before he will tell it.
Alice Brewer: Wife of Matthew, she hates politics and will refuse to spy for anyone, no matter the bribe. She is a faithful Ator worshipper, which causes discord in the family with Eliza. She knows Matthew is greedy, but sees him as a good provider to her and their three children, one just a baby in arms. She is faithful to her family first, and would never betray any of the Brewers.
Beth Brewer: Middle daughter of Abraham and Eliza, she is disgusted with religious discord in her family and wants to run away with Leander. She is pregnant with Leander's child, but hasn't told him yet. She will spy for anyone who can help her escape her dreary life at the inn.
Anne Marie Brewer: Youngest daughter of Abraham and Eliza, she is a saintly child who dreams of joining a Medea convent and serving the sick and poor. She always makes sure Homeless Harry is comfortable and the two have become fast friends. Harry will become a fierce Veteran if Anne Marie is threatened, pulling out a sword few knew he still had.
Leander Ashenoak: Wood elf Scout who works for the king and keeps an eye out on the inn as part of his beat. He sees Aquila and the Empire as opposite sides of the same problem, dominance from a foreign power. He sees Beth off and on, but his wood elf family would never let him marry her.
Homeless Harry: Abraham allows Harry to lurk in common room, bumming copper coins from passers-by. Eliza sees Harry as a nuisance and if it were up to her he would be cast out in the street. But Abraham and Harry are war buddies who fought together against the Eldritch Lord. As long as Abraham is alive, Harry will always be welcome at the Burnt Candle.
Cranch Carpenter: Cranch drinks at the Burnt Candle every night and keeps his eyes open. He is a secret informer (Scout) for the Empire and will identify himself as such to anyone with obvious Imperial ties. He is paid for his services and cares nothing about politics or religion. He will not risk his life in any fight, but will escape at the earliest opportunity. He has recommended that the Empire send someone to assassinate Prince Eldred, but the Empire has not responded to him yet. He is Lady Kate's handler, and passes her information along to a courier who makes runs to New Azula.
Vernon Blacksmith: Vernon has been instrumental in stoking up religious fervor for Nevea and is constantly warning Ator worshippers that their day will come, another Cleansing that will sweep Atorians away. He sees Eliza at church services, and would like to expand the relationship to more than allies. So far she has rebuffed him. Vernon is foolish and sees the world in black and white. He has no idea that Cranch is an Imperial informer.
Lorne: Lorne is a lowly stableboy who is in love with Beth, and would do anything for her. He is the only person Beth has told about her pregnancy, she considers him a good friend and nothing more. Lorne plans to do violence to Leander if he doesn't do the right thing and marry her. In the alternative, he would be open to marrying Beth himself and pretending the baby is his. Lorne is an Ator worshipper and is practically a saint in word and deed. He doesn't understand people like Vernon who hate because of religion.
