It also provides ample space for large quantities of the strange organic substance to bloom and spread, often unseen until it washes ashore.

• Deep Underwater Trenches & Canyons: While much of the bay is relatively shallow, it quickly drops off into deeper areas, including the Redondo Canyon and numerous smaller trenches.
