The Sea of Fallen Stars, often called the Inner Sea, is Faerun's largest inland body of water, serving as a vital hub for trade and travel. Its expansive waters are divided into distinct regions: the Dragonmere (Lake of Dragons) to the west, the Dragon and Easting Reaches to the north, the Alamber Sea to the east, and the Vilhon Reach to the south. These diverse areas make the Sea of Fallen Stars not just a geographical centerpiece but also a cultural and economic linchpin for the surrounding nations.

Beneath the waves lies Seros, the collective name for the undersea realms that house vibrant and mysterious aquatic civilizations. These include dragon turtles, aquatic elves, merfolk, and sahuagin. Though these races often keep to themselves, their presence underscores the sea's richness in biodiversity and hidden intrigue. The existence of aquatic dwarves is a subject of much speculation, as no conclusive evidence has been found to confirm their presence, keeping their tale firmly in the realm of legend.

The sea is a bustling trade route for the powers of central and northern Faerun. Cormyr's formidable Imperial Navy patrols the waters in the west, while Sembia boasts an impressive fleet of 15,000 sailors and corsairs. To the east, the small but resilient fleet of Impiltur lends strength to its maritime presence, and in the south, Turmish maintains a militia-navy to protect its interests. Together, these forces ensure the Inner Sea remains heavily trafficked and contested, with the flags of many coastal nations flying across its waters.

The sea floor of the Inner Sea is a graveyard for hundreds of shipwrecks, offering both danger and opportunity to those brave enough to explore its depths. Its sheer size and connectivity create tidal effects, making it feel more like a true ocean than a landlocked sea.

Despite the constant activity on the surface, the waters of the Sea of Fallen Stars remain steeped in mystery, with its hidden kingdoms and legends fostering an aura of adventure and untapped potential for those who traverse its waves.
