Luruar, also widely known as the Silver Marches, is a confederation of cities in northern Faerun, united under the leadership of Alustriel Silverhand, the former ruler of Silverymoon. Founded with the purpose of protecting the North from the ever-growing hordes of orcs and other threats lurking in the mountains, Luruar stands as a beacon of cooperation and strength in Northwest Faerun.

Luruar is strategically positioned at the heart of the North, surrounded by both natural barriers and perilous frontiers:

  • To the north: The Spine of the World, an immense mountain range home to fierce orc hordes, frost giants, and deadly creatures.
  • To the east: The Anauroch Desert, a vast, lifeless expanse, once the heart of the fallen Netherese empire.
  • To the south: The High Forest, a land of ancient magic, hidden elven enclaves, and untamed wilderness.
  • To the west: The Evermoors, a treacherous region of fog-shrouded swamps and roaming monsters.

Additionally, through Mithral Hall, Luruar shares a border with the kingdom of Many-Arrows, an orc nation founded by King Obould Many-Arrows. Despite historical hostilities, tenuous diplomatic efforts have been made to establish peaceful coexistence, though tensions remain high.

The confederation consists of a powerful alliance of settlements, each contributing its unique strengths to the union:

  • Silverymoon – The heart of the confederation, a majestic city of magic and learning, known for its high culture, arcane might, and strong defenses.
  • Citadel Adbar – A mighty dwarven fortress built to withstand sieges, renowned for its deep mines and skilled craftsmen.
  • Citadel Felbarr – Once lost to the orcs, this ancient dwarven stronghold was reclaimed and restored to its former glory.
  • Mithral Hall – A legendary dwarven kingdom and one of the richest sources of mithral in Faerun. It was home to the Battlehammer clan and a symbol of dwarven resilience.
  • Sundabar – A fortified city of smiths and soldiers, known for its strategic location and strong military presence.
  • Everlund – A vital trade hub and a stronghold of the Harpers, playing a key role in coordinating efforts against regional threats.
  • Deadsnows – A small yet significant mining town, often overshadowed by the larger cities but vital for resources.
  • Jalanthar – A frontier settlement of hardy rangers and trappers, serving as an early warning system against northern threats.
  • Quaervarr – A woodland village closely tied to the High Forest, known for its rangers and close alliance with Silverymoon.
