Sicily

Formed as a sovereign state in 2038 following the collapse of the Italian Republic. Later it became a member state of the Italian Confederation.

The Cosa Nostra is the de facto government. They help keep the peace and sponsor the civil authorities and are quite popular with the local people. The Cosa Nostra opposed the idea of Italian Confederation becoming a member of the NEEC because they feared much more control by the EuroPol agency.

Changes to the weather patterns out in the central Mediterranean caused by the migratory Erebus storm have added new growth and greener colors to the countryside. 

Sicily's economy is split between the rural, pastoral-based tourism industry centered on the coast and the import/export houses and banks taking advantage of the local fiscal paradise. The Cosa Nostra take full advantage to run their business as well.
