02/03/25Wallachia, once a region of pastoral beauty and agricultural wealth, has become a land of divided territories, haunted by both supernatural forces and human strife. The region’s landscape, dotted with vast plains and ancient forests, was irrevocably altered by the devastation of the 2030 Incident. Although much of Wallachia avoided direct strikes from the intercontinental warheads, the cascading geopolitical collapse that followed shattered the region’s social, political, and economic foundations. This, coupled with the sudden rise of dark supernatural entities and cults, transformed Wallachia into a dangerous and unstable frontier, both for the living and the undead.
Pre-2021 and Early Conflict
Before the Global Conflict, Wallachia was a more stable and prosperous part of Romania, known for its agricultural heartland and historical significance as the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Its capital, Bucharest, was a thriving metropolis of culture and industry, with a strong infrastructure and economy. However, Wallachia’s proximity to Transylvania, an epicenter of supernatural activity, had always placed it on the fringes of occult power struggles.
During the early years of the Global Conflict in 2021, Wallachia became a pivotal battleground for both military forces and supernatural entities. While it was not a primary target for ballistic strikes, the region saw an influx of rogue vampire factions, seeking to capitalize on the widespread chaos. Various human militias clashed with vampires and ghouls, trying to defend their homes and resources. The struggle for control of the Carpathian mountains spilled over into Wallachia’s plains and villages, creating a fertile ground for both political and supernatural intrigue.
The 2030 Incident
When the 2030 Incident devastated global centers of power—Washington, New York City, Moscow, and others—Wallachia, like much of Eastern Europe, found itself abandoned and isolated. With the fall of larger capitals, local warlords and vampire aristocrats began asserting their dominance, each taking control of strategically important regions.
Wallachia’s major cities, especially Bucharest, were caught between vampire factions, human militias, and the growing numbers of undead. The Frostblood Court, a powerful vampire clan, emerged from the shadows, taking advantage of the weakened human resistance to lay claim to Wallachia’s southern territories. Their leader, Dumitru Radulescu, a charismatic and brutal vampire lord, established his rule over a shattered and demoralized populace, enacting harsh policies that kept the human survivors under tight control.
In the northern parts of Wallachia, ghouls began to grow in power. They were no longer the mindless predators they once were but had formed their own organized factions—led by the cunning ghoul Mihail the Bonefeaster. With the aid of necromancers, they established a hidden kingdom beneath the ruins of Bucharest, using both magic and terror to hold sway over their territory. Their ghoulish armies often raided villages, dragging the living to their lairs to feast upon their flesh.
While these factions waged their war for dominance, a third power began to make itself known: The White Hand, a mysterious and secretive group of mages and warlocks who believed that the 2030 Incident was a sign that humanity was on the verge of transcending its mortal form. They sought to harness the supernatural upheaval caused by the warheads to open new gateways to the occult and strengthen their dark magics. Their hideouts were scattered across Wallachia’s ancient monasteries and forgotten castles, where they conducted unholy rituals aimed at summoning ancient and powerful beings.
The Current Landscape in 2040
By 2040, Wallachia had become a patchwork of fragmented territories, each ruled by different factions with conflicting goals. The Frostblood Court held the southern regions around Bucharest, where they ruled with an iron fist, enforcing a brutal caste system of vampires, thralls, and humans. The northern regions were controlled by the Ghouls of Mihail the Bonefeaster, who held sway over the ruins of Bucharest and the surrounding villages, feasting on the flesh of the living and the dead.
The White Hand, although not as numerous as the vampire and ghoul forces, remained a potent and dangerous faction, known for their cult-like devotion to unlocking the secrets of life and death. They were rumored to possess the power to raise the dead and twist the very fabric of reality to their whims.
Human resistance groups, though scattered and weakened, still fought for freedom. The Red Dawn Legion, a guerilla force made up of survivors from the old military, now fights a desperate battle to reclaim Wallachia. Their goal is simple: liberate Wallachia from the clutches of supernatural tyranny and restore humanity’s sovereignty over its lands.
