The Alamir Mountains were not surrounded by gradual foothills as were the more northerly mountains in the Iltkazar Range; they exploded out of the ground with steep sides. After a few thousand feet in height, most of the trees gave way to exposed rock, and the steep slopes began to level off only after around 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) on average. The majority of the peaks had summits above 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) over sea level.[
