Draymoor
- City Builder
Port City at River Delta
Score 251
12/04/24Draymoor, though smaller, is known for its strategic location along a river delta, allowing it control over trade routes that flow deeper inland. The city's heart is built around a grand, fortified cathedral where the duchy’s nobility and Sulian officials often hold council. The city’s architecture has an old Gothic feel, with dark, towering spires that pierce the sky, symbolizing the weight of tradition that rests heavily on the city’s shoulders.
While Draymoor is more conservative than Vailbarrow, resisting the intrusion of Sulian technology, it has slowly begun to accept advancements that enhance its defensive capabilities, particularly in light of the growing threat of Suel Lan raids. Its walls are high and thick, with large trebuchets and ballistae defending the harbor against enemy vessels, while Sulian technology has improved their naval defenses, blending the medieval with the modern.
The Sul Loyalists in Draymoor maintain a rigid social hierarchy, with knights, soldiers, and Paliance noble houses having considerable influence. However, the constant threat from the Suel Lan raiders, who have been attacking from the coast and retreating into the sea, has caused unrest in the city. The people are growing weary, and the Paliance aristocrats are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain control, especially as the raiders’ attacks become more frequent and bold.
Cultural Tension and Conflict
Both cities are cultural battlegrounds as much as military ones. The influence of Sul’s cyberpunk elements—automated systems, trade in rare tech artifacts, and mercenary enforcers—is constantly at odds with the medieval traditions upheld by Paliance. This fusion is reflected in everything from governance to daily life, with Sulian inventions beginning to make their way into the cities, such as magical lamps or limited use of Sul’s airships, while Paliance insists on maintaining chivalric orders, sword duels, and feudal allegiances.
As the Suel Lan raiders continue their assaults, seeking to establish their own independent kingdom in Suel Lan, the future of these cities hangs in the balance. The joint rule of Sul and Paliance faces pressure not only from external forces but also from within, as factions in each city debate whether to fully embrace Sul’s advancements or cling to the medieval ways of Paliance.
