Location: Northeastern section of the Mountains of Methodical
Role: Known across Geomdry for its blacksmiths, master armorers, and the legendary forges that produce the finest steel on the continent. Steelcrest is the crucible where tradition, innovation, and molten iron meet.

Overview

Built directly into the bones of the mountain, Steelcrest is a terraced city of stonework towers, iron bridges, steam lifts, and deep-vent forges. The clang of hammer on metal echoes perpetually, and the scent of coal and oil mixes with mountain air.

It is a city of labor and pride—where craftsmanship equals worth, and every citizen, from apprentice to mayor, understands the value of precision.

Mayor: Ilbara Molthane

Race: Dwarven Woman
Appearance: Broad-shouldered, silver-haired with braids looped through steel rings. Often seen in forge-leathers, her face carries soot marks like war paint.
Known For:

• Architect of the Guild Accord, a rotational council that shares leadership among the many blacksmithing guilds.

• Quietly charismatic, Ilbara is respected for walking the line between tradition and reform, balancing old dwarven codes with the city's need for innovation.

• Personally inspects any forge wishing to export under the city’s seal.

Noteworthy Locations

The Grand Forge

The city's heart—a colossal, echoing forge-hall powered by geothermal channels and enhanced by runes from a forgotten dwarven dialect. Apprentices train under torchlight while master-smiths shape legendary weapons and armor.

The Guild Hall

A domed, gear-cranked council hall where representatives of all forge-guilds meet in rotating terms. The interior is both a place of political debate and ritual competition—disagreements are sometimes resolved through contests of craft.

The Castle in the Valley

Visible from Steelcrest’s high terraces, this immaculate stone castle sits nestled in a sheer-cut mountain valley below, well-maintained and completely inaccessible by traditional paths.

• Not a ruin, the castle appears perfectly preserved—torches often flicker in the windows, and smoke has been seen curling from its chimneys.

• No known paths lead to it from Steelcrest, and no invitations have ever been issued.

• The identity of its occupant(s) is unknown. Speculation ranges from a reclusive master-forgemage, to a royal exile, or even an ancient being of stone and will.

• Mayor Ilbara has never spoken of it directly—only to say:

  “It is not our business, unless it becomes so.”

• The Emberline Markets – where finished weapons are traded beside mineral rights contracts and specialty alloys.

• The Coilstep Lifts – spiral lifts running deep into the mountain, powered by steam and gear-crank engines.

• The Furnacefall – an engineered waterfall of cooling molten slag, treated as both industrial runoff and tourist attraction.

Culture & Craft

Steelcrest’s people take immense pride in their work. Almost every citizen has ties to a guild or an artisan lineage. Even children learn how to temper blades or measure alloy ratios in school.

• Disputes between rival guilds are handled via dueling forges—where artisans race to complete assigned items to spec.

• The city holds Forgeday Festivals once per season, where rare materials are auctioned and commemorative blades are made in public view.
