Shell Guark is the opulent, powerful secondary capital of the Turtlekin and the wealthiest city in the Guild Empire (Kinvara, Wendertara, and Zuprana) on Pangaia. Founded on 8/5/795, the city functions as the singular, most important hub for commerce, logistics, and the central headquarters for numerous guilds operating in the larger cosmic struggle of the "Game." The city’s stability is built on strategic geography and a dual system of Eldvar authority and commercial law.

Geography and Architecture

Shell Guark is situated at a crucial nexus of water, nestled between a giant freshwater lake and a large gulf connecting to the ocean. The city utilizes numerous canals and rivers crafted between the two water bodies. Most buildings are constructed from durable stone or polished shell material, with structures being notably wider and more communal, often housing hundreds of people in large complexes.

Description: Shell Guark is anchored to a strategic maritime location, situated between a massive giant freshwater lake and a large ocean gulf, with numerous canals and rivers crafted between the two to facilitate commerce. This ensures it is a frequent traveler stop, typically the first and last stop on travelers’ journeys into the south or north. The city is built for communal power; most buildings are constructed from durable stone or polished shell material, and guild halls are sprawling, large complexes that can house hundreds of people at once.

Dual Rule

  • Unofficial Authority: The city is governed unofficially by the Ageless Prince (a Turtlekin Eldvar) and his wife, the Sapphire Mother, who have served as the city’s peaceful benefactors for over 2000 years.
  • Official Authority: Officially, the city is run by the Council of Guilds, whose Headmaster is the city's official representative on the powerful Guild Lords council of the Guild Empire.

Economy and Core Guilds

Shell Guark’s global influence stems from its two primary logistical guilds, both founded by the Ageless Prince.

  • The Shell Exchange (Ageless Coins): The wealthiest organization in the city, responsible for currency exchange throughout the known world. They are regarded as exceedingly wealthy yet fair, accepting all currencies and maintaining a stable economy through their gem currency, Sparkling Shells.
  • The Wandering Shell (Prince's Post): The post (mail) guild of Pangaia. They are strictly neutral and serve as the first and last stop on travelers' journeys into the north or south, offering assistance and maintaining travel outposts.

Major Guilds and Factions

Shell Guark hosts the headquarters or large regional offices for almost every major guild, all of which operate openly, with the notable exception of the criminal guild.

  • Azure Shells (Ancient Shell): The city's trusted police force, royal guards, and militia of Kinvara. They are typically very skilled fighters, and all visitors are issued a unique egg token.
  • Crafters Guild (Artisan Collective): A collaboration of all crafting skills, whose political power is anchored by the Shell Carvers guild, which handles the sacred duty of repurposing Turtlefolk shells.
  • Sewars Guild (Underdwellers): Works to maintain the city's sewer systems but secretly serves as the Brown Order's intelligence network, utilizing powerful magic to fight reality walkers.
  • Fisherman Guild (The Lake Harvesters): Responsible for fishing the two lakes, farming oysters, pearls, and herbs, and recovering lost treasures. They also perform the specialized task of harvesting the rare water honey produced by aqua bees.
  • Blue Honey Guild (Sapphire Comb): A smaller guild that works with the Fisherman Guild, holding the secret of the rare blue bees and producing legendary mead and honey.
  • The Hatchery (Royal Eggs): Run by the Ageless Prince's royal guards, this site raises young Turtlefolk hatchlings until they are adopted by guilds, who are then responsible for their 5-year wardship and training.
  • The Honey Brown Guil (Adventurer’s Hub): The local branch of the Adventurers Guild that grew quickly in Shell Guark, founded by the children of veteran Guardians. It is the historical predecessor to Honey Brown University.
  • The Shadow Snappers (Serpent’s Coil): The lone criminal guild in the city. They are the dark rogues and assassins responsible for the primary criminal activity, often serving the destabilizing agenda of the Dying King.
