02/14/25Raven Rock is the sacred ancestral mound of the Black Raven and Gray Wolf tribes, situated near the headwaters of the Black Raven River in the Spine of the World. The site is revered for its spiritual and cultural significance, serving as a burial ground, a place of communion with ancestral spirits, and a testament to the enduring traditions of the Uthgardt people.
The most striking feature of Raven Rock is the massive 100-foot-tall stone sculpture of a perched raven, its dark silhouette looming over the frozen expanse. Carved from the mountain itself, the great raven is said to be as old as the first ancestors of the Black Raven tribe. Its presence signifies their unwavering devotion to their totem and the warlike traditions they have upheld for generations.
South of this towering monument, the Gray Wolf tribe holds its own sacred space—a wolf-shaped depression that surrounds an altar engraved with the phases of the moon. This altar is the heart of their connection to their totem, the great wolf, and serves as a place for rituals tied to the cycles of nature and the transformation of the body and spirit. Despite their shared reverence for Raven Rock, the two tribes remain divided, and members of the Gray Wolf tribe are forbidden from stepping onto the highest plateau, which belongs solely to the Black Ravens.
The plateaus of Raven Rock are dotted with ancient stone menhirs, their surfaces worn smooth by wind and snow. These towering stones are covered in etchings and runes, many of which are indecipherable to all but the most learned of shamans. Some believe these markings contain ancient knowledge, possibly dating back to the days of Eaerlann or even older civilizations.
A constant presence of Black Raven warriors and their giant raven mounts ensures that the site remains protected. It is rumored that no fewer than ten warriors and ten ravens stand guard at all times, watching over their ancestors' resting place with a fierce and unyielding vigilance. Trespassers who attempt to defile the mound or encroach upon its sacred grounds without invitation risk swift and merciless retribution.
Legends whisper of powerful rituals conducted at Raven Rock, some calling upon the spirits of long-dead warriors, while others claim that the great stone raven is more than just a monument—it is a vessel of ancient power, awaiting the moment when it will awaken to defend the tribe once more. Whether these tales hold truth or are simply stories to instill fear in the hearts of outsiders, the mystery of Raven Rock remains, its secrets buried beneath layers of time and ice.
