02/28/25Greenest is the largest settlement along the Uldoon Trail in the Greenfields region of the Western Heartlands. While it is often debated whether Greenest belongs to the Sword Coast or the Western Heartlands, its position as a thriving trade hub makes it a part of both and yet fully owned by neither. Merchants, craftsfolk, and traders rely on the steady flow of caravans passing through the region, bringing gold, goods, and news from distant lands.
The lands surrounding Greenest, known as the Greenfields, consist of gently rolling hills, fertile plains, and scattered groves of deciduous trees. These lands are ideal for farming, livestock, and small-scale forestry, making Greenest a self-sufficient community that also benefits from external trade.
The Uldoon Trail, a well-traveled road connecting Eshpurta in Amn to the east and Berdusk in the Heartlands to the west, ensures that Greenest remains an essential waypoint for travelers, merchants, and adventurers navigating the region.
Greenest boasts a population of around 200 permanent residents, primarily consisting of humans, dwarves, and halflings, though a few elves and half-elves also call it home. This number increases dramatically during trade seasons, as caravaneers, merchants, and travelers temporarily swell the town’s populace.
Greenest is governed by Tarbaw Nighthill, a pragmatic and even-tempered leader dedicated to ensuring the town’s security and prosperity. While the town lacks a formal militia, Nighthill has organized local watch patrols and relies on visiting mercenaries or adventurers when external threats arise.
Greenest was founded by Dharva Scatterheart, a renegade halfling rogue who dreamed of ruling as the Queen of the Greenfields. Though she never achieved noble status, the town flourished under her leadership, growing into a respected and strategic settlement. Her descendants still live in the region, though they now play a lesser role in Greenest’s affairs.
Greenest’s most infamous event occurred in 1489 DR, when it was raided by the Cult of the Dragon and an adult blue dragon named Lennithon. The cultists, seeking wealth and resources for their larger ambitions, devastated the town, forcing its people to seek refuge within Greenest Keep. The attack has left a lasting scar on the town’s memory, leading to increased vigilance and a lingering mistrust of dragonkind.
