The Dwarven Valley

The Dwarven Valley is a deep rift in Icewind Dale, situated along the southern slopes of Kelvin's Cairn and home to a thriving dwarven community, particularly the renowned Clan Battlehammer. Within this valley lies a vast network of tunnels, subterranean passages, and mines that have been shaped by generations of dwarven craftsmanship.

Two grand halls, each carved into the western and eastern walls of the rift, serve as the heart of the valley. These dwarfholds are equipped with living quarters, dining areas, storerooms, and well-stocked armories. At the center of both halls lies a forge—a cherished symbol of dwarven resilience and productivity, providing the valley’s dwarves with weapons, tools, and warmth.

Beyond the main halls extends an intricate maze of tunnels, leading to various mines. Some of these remain active, yielding valuable resources, while others have been abandoned as their ores were exhausted over time.

In 1365, the dwarves of the valley demonstrated their tactical prowess when they lured the wizard Akar Kessel and his forces into their southern tunnels. They collapsed the tunnels, burying many of Kessel’s forces alive and halting his attempted invasion of Icewind Dale, showcasing the valley's strategic importance and the ingenuity of its defenders.
