Sword Coast City

Mirabar is a prosperous mining city on the Sword Coast, known as the wealthiest settlement north of Waterdeep. Tensions have simmered here since the reopening of Mithral Hall, as Clan Battlehammer’s superior metal production has drawn away some of Mirabar’s traditional clientele. The city itself is populated by mountain dwarves who live and work underground, close to their workshops that produce high-quality metal goods for regional and distant export. Aboveground, humans cooperate with the dwarves, overseeing mining logistics, transportation, and city defense against magical threats.

Although Mirabar is officially ruled by a hereditary marchion, its true authority lies with the Council of Sparkling Stones, an elected assembly of dwarves and humans. This council convenes annually to set production quotas and occasionally threaten reduced output to negotiate favorable terms with clients.

The city, situated on a knoll along the northern banks of the River Mirar, features squat stone buildings and a few stone towers arranged for maximum efficiency. Its defenses include thick, sloped walls designed for winter security, allowing water to freeze on them and create a slippery barrier against invaders. Open mines and rock heaps dot the landscape around Mirabar, with secured roads leading to the major mining areas in the Spine of the World. These mines yield a variety of valuable metals and gemstones, necessitating protection against orc and monster attacks.

Mirabar is defended by the Axe of Mirabar, a disciplined force that keeps the city virtually crime-free. For additional security, the “Shadow District” monitors any potential criminal activity, while map-making within city limits is strictly prohibited to prevent sensitive information from falling into enemy hands.
