Sword Coast Town

Beregost is a notable town on the Coast Way, strategically positioned between the bustling trade hubs of Baldur's Gate to the north and Amn to the south. It serves as a popular stopover for merchant caravans traveling toward Waterdeep or eastward to the Sea of Fallen Stars, thanks to its well-maintained facilities and advantageous location.

The town is modest in size, with about forty main buildings nestled within its borders. Smaller dwellings are scattered on its outskirts, while larger estates belonging to prominent families are situated further afield. The crown jewel of Beregost is the Song of the Morning, a grand temple complex dedicated to Lathander, located to the east of the town's center. This spiritual hub underscores Beregost's importance as a place of respite and reflection for travelers.

To the south, atop a hill, lies the haunting remnants of the Ulcaster School of Wizardry, now a ruined shell. Known locally as the Wizards' Doom, the area around the old school is steeped in mystery, with its legacy hinted at by the small rivulet—aptly named Wizards' Doom Creek—that flows from the hill, cutting across the Coast Way and meandering toward the sea.

Beregost itself lies approximately 200 miles from the Amnian border, solidifying its role as a gateway to the Lands of Intrigue for traders and adventurers alike. Its proximity to the legendary Candlekeep further elevates its prominence. Separated by the Way of the Lion, Candlekeep is only a day's ride to the west, making Beregost an ideal staging point for scholars and seekers of knowledge bound for the fabled library fortress.

Though not directly on the coastline, Beregost is still regarded as a coastal town due to its proximity to the Sea of Swords. Its growth, however, is closely monitored and restricted by the temple of Lathander, which ensures expansion occurs toward the coastline and away from the cursed grounds of the ruined Ulcaster School. Over the years, Beregost has attracted the attention of wealthy Amnian families, eager to capitalize on its location by establishing mercantile operations along the bustling Coast Way. This influence has shaped the town's development, blending its quaint charm with a growing mercantile ambition.
