Elturgard

Elturgard, also known as the Kingdom of the Two Suns, is a theocratic realm in the Western Heartlands, ruled from the city of Elturel. Dedicated to Torm, the Loyal Fury, this kingdom is fiercely defended by its paladin knighthood, the Order of the Companion. The land spans the Fields of the Dead north and south of the River Chionthar and is surrounded by the dense and mysterious forests of the Reaching Woods, the Forest of Wyrms, and the Werewoods.

In 1444 DR, an extraordinary celestial phenomenon transformed the region—a radiant orb known as the Companion (or "Amaunator's Gift") appeared directly above Elturel. This second sun shines perpetually, never setting, and bathes Elturgard in unending daylight. While it produces no heat, its brilliant light is as bright as the natural sun, capable of burning undead creatures and repelling beings of darkness. The Companion's glow is visible from nearly anywhere within Elturgard, dimming with distance: at 50 miles, it provides a pale dawn-like light, while further away, it appears as a steady beacon or a low-hanging star visible from as far as Berdusk and Boareskyr Bridge.

The heart of Elturgard's governance lies in the High Hall of Elturel, where the High Observer of Torm presides. Tasked with maintaining order and delivering righteous judgment, the High Observer is supported by the paladin knighthood and a robust bureaucracy. Together, they ensure the region's security and strive to spread justice throughout the Realms. Under the eternal light of the Companion, Elturgard stands as a bastion of law, faith, and vigilance against the forces of darkness.
