02/13/25The Delimbiyr Vale, also known as the Shining Valley, is a vast and sweeping expanse in the North, encompassing the western, upper reaches of the Delimbiyr River. This fertile valley has long attracted travelers, pioneers, and settlers willing to brave the harsh realities of life in the Savage Frontier. However, not all of the Vale is welcoming—portions of the land remain abandoned, littered with crumbling ruins, lurking monsters, and ancient, long-buried secrets.
The Delimbiyr Vale is framed by formidable natural barriers. To the north, the towering Nether Mountains loom over the valley, marking its northernmost boundary. To the south, the rolling expanse of South Wood serves as a natural border. To the west, the High Forest forms a vast, dense woodland barrier. Though it runs close to the Delimbiyr River in the south, no part of the High Forest itself is considered part of the Vale. The forest’s ancient trees, however, stretch nearly to the banks of the Delimbiyr, narrowing the valley considerably in places.
The Delimbiyr Vale is often informally divided into two distinct regions by the locals:
- Upvale – Located in the northern reaches of the Vale, Upvale consists of vast, open grasslands that lie between Tall Trees and the Far Forest. The area is known for its fertile plains, roaming herds, and hidden dangers, as well as a scattering of small frontier settlements and nomadic tribes.
- Gray Vale – Situated in the southwest, Gray Vale is an expanse of rolling grasslands interwoven with rivers, including the Greyflow and Loagrann. This region was once a bustling trade corridor, but over the years, parts of it have become wild and untamed, claimed by raiders, beasts, and relics of forgotten ages.
As the Delimbiyr River continues its journey southward, it widens and slows, forming floodplains near the town of Daggerford. These fertile lands are prone to seasonal flooding, which enriches the soil and supports agriculture, trade, and small river settlements. However, during periods of heavy rainfall, the floodwaters can be unpredictable and dangerous, sometimes reshaping the landscape and uncovering long-buried ruins or lost artifacts.
