The Fallen Lands are one of the most enigmatic and treacherous regions of the Savage Frontier, a place where the scars of ancient battles still pulse with lingering magic. Despite its barren, desolate landscape, the land is far from empty—monsters, magical anomalies, and forgotten ruins dot its expanse, drawing adventurers seeking fortune, power, or forbidden knowledge.

The Fallen Lands are located just west of the Anauroch Desert, forming part of the northern edge of the Savage Frontier. They are bounded by:

  • The Triangle of Trees – A mysterious, lightly wooded region that many avoid.
  • The Far Forest (to the north) – A wild and dangerous woodland home to predatory creatures and ancient secrets.
  • Weathercote Wood (to the south) – A place steeped in fey and druidic magic, contrasting the arcane chaos of the Fallen Lands.

By day, the rolling hills and scrublands seem deceptively ordinary. By night, however, witchfire dances across the hills, and strange auras of wild magic flicker in the air.

The Fallen Lands are plagued with dead-magic zones, where spells fail unpredictably, and wild magic pockets, where arcane energy surges chaotically. The exact cause remains debated—some believe it is the aftermath of an ancient magical war, while others whisper that something slumbers beneath the earth, distorting the Weave.

  • Dead-Magic Zones – Areas where all magic, divine or arcane, ceases to function.
  • Wild Magic Pockets – Locations where spells can backfire, transform, or cause unintended effects.
  • Witchfire Discharges – Mysterious green and violet flames that appear without warning, often accompanied by ghostly whispers or strange apparitions.

The Fallen Lands are littered with ruins, the remnants of forgotten civilizations. Some of these ruins are thought to date back to Netheril, while others may be linked to the elves, dwarves, or even unknown, long-lost peoples. For adventurers, the Fallen Lands represent both opportunity and peril.
