Book One: Lost Mine of the Drunko Party

An Adventure Based on the "Lost Mine of Phandelver"

Hundreds of years ago a clan of dwarves and gnomes came to an agreement in the cavern known as Wave Echo Cave call the Phandelver's Pact. Soon after human spellcasters allied with them, for the mine contained great magical powers in addition to mineral wealth. The spellcasters bound the energies and created the Forge of Spells, where magical items could be crafted. The nearby town of Phandalin prospered as a result.

A force of orcs and mercenary wizards attacked the Wave Echo Cave, overthrowing the allies and seizing control of the Forge of Spells. But the battles destroyed much of the cavern and later cave-ins left no survivors knowing of the exact location of the Wave Echo Cave.

For centuries treasure seekers have followed rumors to no avail. Phandalin, devastated by the attacks and the loss of commerce suffered for years and was nearly abandoned on a few occasions. Today it is a rough-and-tumble frontier town.

Recently the Rockseeker brothers - a trio of dewarves - believe they have discovered an entrance to the Wave Echo Cave, and intend to explore it further and potentially reopen the mines. Unfortunately they are not the only ones interested in the Wave Echo Cave; and are likely to face both good and evil opposition in their endeavors.

In the city of Neverwinter, the dwarf Gundren Rockseeker employed several acquaintances of his, including Tacitus Kilgore and Redgar Corlinn, to bring a wagonload of provisions to the settlement of Phandalin, several days travel south of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reason for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business."

Tacitus and Redgar have spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. Encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous; bandit and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
