Dornwald

Once a sacred nesting ground for Green Dragons, Dornwald was forest hidden deep within the mountain ranges of Taluaine. Eggs laid within its borders remained undisturbed, hatching stronger wyrmlings than were typical of green dragons. After consuming their hoards, green great wyrms would return to its borders during their twilight years in order to willingly die. It was not uncommon for the spirits of these powerful beings to remain tied to Dornwald, reanimating the land itself to serve as twilight guardians, or lingering as ghostly dragons in order to protect the eggs of their descendants and offer great knowledge to the wyrmlings not yet ready to venture into the wider world.

Over the centuries, the nature of the forest itself became shaped by the influx of powerful Draconic energies, causing several unnatural changes. All the plant life within sprouted wicked thorns that completely snared any non-dragon. Light that passed through the canopy took on an unnatural emerald hue. Trees and vines within seemed to spontaneously awaken and then go dormant.

Of all the deadly dragons born within the forest, Dornwald is most notable for being the birthplace of Asphixias. The Mad Wyrm spent his early years there before leaving to terrorize Taluaine, as befitting of his kin. For reasons unknown Asphixias would return centuries later in order to commit the Forest Fratricide, whereupon he killed all of the green dragons onsite, smashing eggs and utterly destroying the landscape in its entirety.

Now, Dornwald sits as a blasted, desolate crater, a cursed scar upon a once vibrant landscape, serving as a testament to the might and fury of evil that defies the natural order of the world.
