Vilewood Forest

Formally known as Smilewood Forest, this forested region in central Harek is located equidistant from Amarillia and Verdun. Several major thoroughfares intersect underneath the canopy, and roads leading to Old Azul and the Temple of Fharlanghn that were once easy to travel have become overgrown by vegetation run amok and unchecked 

Around the beginning of the War of the Daffodils, this once beautiful woodland has become polluted with supernatural corruption. A perpetual fog hangs in the air, carrying an acrid whiff of chlorine. The moss-covered trees grow close together except where winding pathways trace their way like a maze into the heart of the forest. The light that reaches the forest floor carries an emerald green cast, and every sound seems muffled. Sharp thorns jut angrily outward from trees and shrubs that traditionally should have none.

Smilewood has become Vilewood, and few who dare brave its perils ever return. Forest Gnomes, Wood Elves, and other woodland races have begun emigrating en masse, citing a foul presence that has tainted that area with wicked creatures of unnatural origin. Only the truly desperate or truly insane would voluntarily cross its borders.
