Floor 2 of Newton's Tower

Dining Room & Kitchen
Score 555
05/09/26Unlike the upper levels of Newton’s Tower, Floor 2 is loud.
Not bustling in the way of mortal kitchens — no pounding feet or shouted insults — but full of:
- clattering utensils,
- boiling kettles,
- scraping chairs,
- muttered orders,
- and half-heard conversations from voices that no longer possess lungs.
The entire floor is maintained by semi-corporeal servants bound to Newton’s household magic.
The staff continue their duties with unnerving dedication despite many of them having died decades ago.
Some do not realize they are dead.
Dining Room
{Approximately 50 ft. x 50 ft.}
The stairwell opens directly into a cavernous dining chamber.
Features:
- Four long dining tables, each approximately 20 feet long and 5 feet wide.
- Heavy carved chairs with soft padding.
- Chandeliers enchanted with warm amber light.
- Silverware that occasionally rearranges itself.
- The smell of fresh bread despite no visible ovens.
The room can comfortably seat:
- dozens of guests,
- entire noble entourages,
The tables bear faint scratches from:
- duels,
- arguments,
- drunken boasts,
- and at least one magical explosion.
A swinging kitchen door on the eastern side leads into the prep area.
Door in the Eastern Wall is a swinging door that can push either way.

Kitchen & Prep Area
{Approximately 20 ft. x 50 ft.}
This chamber is oppressively warm.
Massive ovens and fireplaces dominate both ends of the room:
A large oven/stove taking up most of the arc of the Eastern side of the room, the large pipe leads from the oven to the upper wall.
one near the southern section,
one near the northern section.
A large table is cluttered with mixing bowls, crocks of flour, and spice-boxes. The majority of the prep-work occurs here. Copper pots hang overhead.
Knives chop ingredients with no visible hands.
One large table is set near the door to the dining room to layout prepared meals to be brought out together.
Soup stirs itself.
Semi-corporeal cooks glide through each other while arguing about recipes from centuries ago.
The northernmost doorway in the west wall seems swollen.

Hallway
Storage Hallway
{Approximately 55 ft. x 5 ft.}
A narrow hallway lined with three storage-room doors on the north wall.
The hallway was poorly designed even before death removed the servants’ ability to care about collision hazards.
When the storage-room doors are open:
- passage becomes cramped,
- carts become stuck,
- and spectral cooks loudly complain about “traffic.”
The easternmost storage room is hardest to access and thus contains:
- ceremonial tableware,
- emergency ingredients,
- experimental spices,
- and things no one wanted near the regular pantry.
This distinction has caused multiple hauntings.

The Semi-Corporeal Staff
The servants are magical echoes of Newton’s original household staff:
- cooks,
- butlers,
- dishwashers,
- servers,
- and kitchen apprentices.
They are partially tangible:
- enough to carry trays,
- clean dishes,
- and occasionally slap rude guests with spectral towels.
They flicker between ghostly transparency and exhausted solidity.
Most are locked into repetitive routines.
Kitchen Hazards & Atmosphere
Possible encounters include:
- spectral chefs demanding taste tests,
- floating knives mistaking adventurers for sous-chefs,
- phantom arguments over seasoning,
- invisible servants attempting to take orders,
- and a ghostly dinner rush triggered by loud noises.
At random moments:
- chairs slide out on their own,
- bells ring,
- or food appears at tables no one sat at.
Important Staff Members

A large translucent dwarf with six spectral arms formed from overlapping magical echoes.
- Takes cuisine extremely seriously.

- Believes every visitor is late for dinner service.
Constantly shouting: “HOT PAN! HOT PAN! WHY IS NO ONE RESPECTING THE PAN?!”
Madam Velis
Tall elven woman carrying an incorporeal ledger.
- Obsessively tracks seating arrangements.
- Insists proper etiquette prevents magical catastrophe.
- Becomes hostile if someone sits “out of sequence.”
Pip
Teenage spectral human carrying floating potatoes.
- Friendly.
- Forgetful.
- Accidentally phases through walls mid-conversation.
Claims the pantry whispers to him.
He is unfortunately correct.
