Mub is a province in the Kingdom of Pagen, located in the center of the continent. It is a harsh and desolate land of hot and semi-arid deserts, with a large inland lake at its center. The few settlements in Mub are mostly located in the desert regions and are inhabited by hardy and resourceful people. The Stormber fortress city, Szélvészvár (the whirlwind fortress), is the largest settlement in the area, and it's where most of the Mubian artifact expeditions start from.

Mub has a rich history, but most of it is shrouded in mystery. Long ago a powerful nation was there. The remnants of this ancient civilization can still be found in the artifacts that are scattered throughout Mub.

Orcs, it is rumored, once roamed the area but have since migrated westward and eventually established the Srath Empire. However, a few primitive tribes still live in Mub, resisting change and clinging to the old ways. The Srathian orcs, who have built an empire to the west, look down on their Mubian counterparts but also hold a reverence for the harsh land they come from

Geography of Mub

Mub is a vast and diverse province in the Kingdom of Pagen, stretching approximately 1900 kilometers north to south and 1200 kilometers east to west at its widest point. Its landscape is a rich tapestry of arid deserts, fertile savannas, imposing mountains, and strategic water bodies.

Key Regions:

  1. Szomjúzó Tó (Thirst-Quenching Lake): Centrally located, this large inland lake is a lifeline for the surrounding settlements, providing vital water resources in an otherwise harsh environment.

  2. Kivirágzó (The Blooming Savannah): Located west of Szomjúzó Tó, Kivirágzó is the most fertile region in Mub. This expansive savanna is characterized by scattered acacia trees, rolling grasslands, and vibrant wildflowers that bloom during the brief rainy season. It supports extensive agriculture and livestock.

  3. Inner Desert: Spanning approximately 750 kilometers both east-west and north-south, this region is characterized by harsh, semi-arid conditions. The landscape is dominated by sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and ancient ruins from a forgotten civilization, making it a hotspot for artifact expeditions.

  4. Mountain Ranges: The northern and eastern borders of Mub are lined with rugged mountains, providing natural fortifications. These mountains, including Árnyékhegy, are known for their steep cliffs, hidden valleys, and mystical caves.

  5. Outer Reaches:

    • Északi Határ (The Northern Reach): Characterized by rolling hills and challenging terrain, gradually climbing towards the ringing mountains.

    • Keleti Határ (The Eastern Reach): Similar rugged terrain with significant elevation changes, leading to a breathtaking mountainous landscape.

    • Déli Határ (The Southern Reach): Features undulating hills and tough terrain, with pathways leading up to the southern mountain ranges.

Fauna:

Mub is home to a diverse array of fantastical creatures that have adapted to its varied environments:

  1. Desert Drakes: These small, winged reptiles glide over the sand dunes, hunting for prey with their keen eyesight. They are often seen as omens of good fortune or disaster.

  2. Sand Serpents: Massive serpents that burrow beneath the sands of the inner desert. They are rarely seen but their presence is marked by sudden, shifting dunes.

  3. Savanna Gryphons: Majestic creatures with the body of a lion and the wings of an eagle, they soar over Kivirágzó, preying on antelope and other herbivores.

  4. Shadow Panthers: Elusive and nocturnal, these large cats prowl the northern and eastern reaches. They are known for their ability to blend into the shadows, making them excellent hunters.

  5. Spirit Deer: Ethereal creatures that inhabit the forests and foothills of Árnyékhegy. Said to be the guardians of the ancient forest, their sightings are considered a blessing.

  6. Thunderbirds: Enormous birds of prey that nest in the high mountains. Their wings can create thunderous sounds, and they are often associated with storms.

  7. Mystic Foxes: Small, intelligent creatures found throughout the province. They possess a unique ability to camouflage and are often depicted in local folklore as cunning tricksters.

Summary

Mub is a province of contrasts, with its fertile savannas, harsh deserts, and rugged mountains. The central Szomjúzó Tó sustains life, while the diverse fauna, from desert drakes to spirit deer, adds a fantastical element to the landscape. The region's varied geography and rich biodiversity make it a dynamic and intriguing part of the Kingdom of Pagen.
