Wyvern and pterodactyl infested clouds of ash cover the canyons in perpetual twilight. Impossible to navigate through. Barred to the north by 17,000-20'000 ft peaks. Cliffs as high as 10,000 feet make the Canyon of the Dead Gods impossible to enter except for a single river that flows out of them into the plains of the Makanta Region. The canyons themselves are 25 miles in radius - making the entire maze 850 sq miles in area.
