Deep in the heart of Smilewood Forest lies a nexus of extraplanar activity. Said to be situated at a crossroads of the Material Plane and the Outlands, the Temple of Fharlanghn was built to serve as a combination visitor's center and place of worship for those who revere Fharlanghn, the Dweller on the Horizon. For centuries, both Fharlanghn's faithful and extraplanar travelers would stop at the temple, either to pay homage to their god, buy and sell supplies, trade stories, and enjoy a hot meal before returning to whatever road they traveled. In time, the town of Old Azul (then just "Azul") would form nearby, with the Azulites coming to worship Fharlanghn as their patron deity.

But everything changed during the Celadon Calamity.

In the year 807, a mighty Green Dragon called Asphixias descended on the temple. Drawn by the scent of treasures from across the Great Wheel, the great wyrm left no survivors as he took what he saw as rightfully his. King Douglas of Harek attempted to drive the dragon away, with no success and much embarrassment to himself and the Harekians.

Following the Celadon Calamity, the temple was declared off-limits to civilians, and as decades passed it fell into obscurity and ruin. As of the year 1002, anyone foolish enough to enter its grounds is almost always never seen again.
