Founding

Circa 412 P.C.

Description

Fényoázis is a leyline oasis nestled deep in the Mubian desert. Originally a sanctuary for outcasts, heretics, and rugged settlers seeking to live beyond the reach of empires, it flourished around a sacred spring that anchors one of the region’s few leyline nexuses. Its magical calm drew relic-hunters, wanderers, and eventually the Kingdom of Pagen, which designated it an official expedition staging point. Though nominally Pagen-sanctioned, local governance remains fiercely independent.

Population

Predominantly human with a mix of desert-adapted lineages; features many wanderers, relic-chasers, traders, and spiritualists. No nobility. Everyone works or washes out.

Economy

Driven by outfitting expeditions, resupplying desert-crossers, and informal relic trade. Goods include preserved foods, water, field alchemy, gear repair, and desert charts. Currency is mixed—coin, trade goods, or knowledge.

Ruler or Leader

De facto authority is shared between Elder Mira (spiritual guardian) and Borza Kett (owner of The Scorched Gourd). For disputes, most defer to Thórbaz Varju, who enforces peace by sheer presence.

Culture and Society

Stoic and survivalist. Celebrates rare festivals with music and fire-dancing around the Pool. Distrusts officials but welcomes competence. Justice is communal and swift.

Defenses

No walls. Safety comes from its leyline protections, mutual respect, sheltered location at the end of a valley, and a rugged population. Most are armed. The Pool is warded by magic and taboo.

Points of Interest

  • The Scorched Gourd – Tavern, guildhall, rumour mill.

  • The Pool – Leyline spring; site of ritual, rest, and bans.

  • Dustmarket – Bazaar of relics, trinkets, and hirelings.

  • Tinshirt’s Yard – Tinkering yard and forge.

Current Crisis

In recent weeks, strange creatures from the deep desert—gnarled things of horn, heat, and hunger—have begun stalking too close to the oasis. Once held back by the leyline’s stability, they now slip through the outer reaches, emboldened. Several caravaners have gone missing, and Liora Szentai was recently found bloodied but alive after a scouting trip. Elder Mira suspects a corruption in the leyline itself, and her nightly rites have grown more strained. The people whisper that the Pool feels different—warmer, restless.

Quest Hooks

  • Desert Fire – A dig team returns with a shard that warps nearby water.

  • The Silent Storm – A storm sits unmoving on the horizon.

  • Flickering Path – A ruin appears where no ruin should be.

  • Encroaching Hunger – The creatures grow bolder. Someone—or something—is drawing them in.

Local Foes

  • Rogue dig teams, sand-cursed beasts, scavenger ghosts from the dunes, and now—the encroaching horrors of the corrupted desert.

Secrets and Mysteries

  • The Pool may house a spirit older than the Sssarren.

Rumors and Rumblings
